Trouble

I was feeling bright, as I strode to school and took a short-cut through the forest that bordered the park that sat next to campus. It was the park where I had met Jack and I was in a daydream until I smelled Hal's recent path through the trees. I hid my chakra immediately and climbed the nearest tree, so that when Hal looked back into the woods from where he stood on the edge with Nina, he didn't see me. He was alert and jumpy and I listened in to what they were saying because I wondered who he thought could be following him.

"The smell of the blood was too strong. I don't even think a really powerful Lycan could figure out who killed those people." Nina told Hal as if she was repeating herself and hoping that he didn't find her incompetent.

"Do you think there were multiple Lycans, or just one responsible?" he asked.

"I don't know. There were six people and they were armed. There are bullet holes all over the one truck like they were in the truck." She explained.

"Well, most of the powerful Lycans only hunt in pairs. Maybe two strong ones could have done it?" Hal seemed at a loss, as if trying to figure out a hard, very important riddle.

"But why would they pick people so heavily armed? Had they been targeting them?" Nina asked, shaking her head. I almost wanted to jump down and tell them what actually happened, but the idea of Lucien coming after me with his large beta made me stay where I was. If there was a chance that Lucien couldn't figure out it was me and Wolf, and Jack and April, I would make sure he never found out. I did enjoy listening to what they thought.

"Do you think they knew the Lycans were after them?" Hal asked.

"I don't think it was gang violence and I don't think the two trucks were shooting at each other."

"I'll text the others about what you saw, thank you for checking it out." Hal told her, taking out his lime-green phone and starting to scroll through his contacts.

When he and Nina had gone far enough away and looked distracted, I let go of my chakra and leapt down to continue my stroll towards the school. I went straight to my locker and threw my textbook in before starting to make my way to my friends outside at our table. A screeching, ringing barrage of noise suddenly pierced painfully deep into my ear canals, making my head feel like it was being rattled off my shoulders. I had flinched and covered my ears. I was dizzy when the noise ceased and I realized it was the bell that sat high on the wall above my head near the double doors I was heading to. I cursed as I spun around and saw a girl I had never seen before looking at me. I resisted the urge to look away and analyzed the strange look in her brown eyes as I passed by her to homeroom. I was still annoyed about the damn bell leaving me with a headache as I collapsed into my seat. As one of the first students in the room, I sat quietly pretending to look at my phone, but actually listening to the conversations passing in the hallway.

"Is Silver not here again?" I heard Scarlet's voice in the hallway. I wanted to run out and tell her I was and I was mad that I hadn't gotten there early enough to ask them about having lunch with Jack and April. I was sending out a group text when I heard someone approach me. I expected to see Nina because who else would have a heart beating that fast as they came near me. I guessed she was going to ask about who I thought killed those 'people', but when I looked up, I was disturbed to find that the girl that had been staring at me in the hallway had claimed the empty seat that sat between me and Nina.

"Are you in the wrong room?" I asked, trying not to sound as annoyed as I felt, because technically other than staring, the girl had done nothing wrong.

"Room 201?" she asked, showing me her schedule, which I noticed quickly was almost identical to mine.

"You moved to a new school in April?" I clarified, with an eyebrow raised in judgement. We only had school until the middle of June so there were only about two months left. She sent me a friendly smile, seemingly impervious to my tone.
