That night, I was starting to feel the hunger come upon me. Something about being on guard all day was draining my energy. Jack and I had left the hotel around 12 am Paris time and we were leisurely walking around the cobblestone streets which were not nearly as empty as most streets at 12 am.
"I'm hungry, Jack. What should I do?" I asked him with worry.
"I could get somebody for you, but you'll have to be quiet and find somewhere no one will see." Jack frowned, looking nervous.
"Okay." I answered, remembering Cyrus and the deer. We walked a little further and then found an alleyway that was fairly empty. There was an orange light that made it brighter than any alleyway in our city and I looked up at it in frustration. I felt my heartrate rise as I started to panic about being seen in the city. The light flickered and Jack was watching me still staring at the light when I realized it must've been me that made it flicker. I reached out with my chakra and tried to pull the light from the lamp but as my chakra surrounded it, it lit up lighter and the lightbulb over-heated and shattered before I realized what had happened.
"Nice." Jack smirked. "Stay here. I won't go far." He told me, leaving me alone in the darkened alleyway. I kept my eyes peeled for anybody coming up behind me and worried about being found for an impossibly long time.
When Jack came back, he was holding her hand. She just followed him like she knew him and I could see that he had bit her neck. She was drunk too and her pale green eyes and blonde hair reminded me of Cassidie. I frowned, picturing Cassidie in her place. When she saw me, she started putting her arms around my neck and tried to kiss me.
"I can't do this, Jack." I told him, swallowing uncomfortably.
"She's a drug addict." He told me. "She probably doesn't have long left anyway." He muttered. I could see her heart beating through her skinny sternum that was bare because she only wore what reminded me of a kid's camisole. She probably wasn't even enough to satiate me for a week. Just skin and bones like when I had been cursed. I pulled her hands off me and pushed her out of the alleyway back towards the street.
"I can't do it." I told him, as she tried to latch onto him and he pulled her hands off of him and told her to go back to the club.
"Sorry, Silver." He told me. He pulled me into his arms and I kissed him for a minute until I heard somebody thundering down the street towards the girl.
"Where are you going?" he yelled at her. Jack stepped back to hide against the wall and I watched from the dark as the large man grabbed her wrist and pulled her down the street. The feel of his blood pumping through his veins as he roughly gripped her fragile arm was enough to make up my mind. Jack's eyes were wide because he knew what I was about to do. I looked both ways quickly before taking three steps out onto the street and phasing. The guy wasn't looking, but the woman gasped quietly in her hazy state. I reared up behind him, the black smoke surrounding us and I grabbed him by the neck, crushing his throat so he couldn't scream. He let go of the girl who had fallen to the pavement in fear and he tried feebly to dislodge my teeth while I dragged him as fast as I could into the alleyway. I pulled him to the darkest spot and wished Jack wasn't there as I surrendered to my hunger. I was almost embarrassed to phase back and knew I wasn't the neatest Lycan ever. I had gotten myself soaked in blood and was glad I had made the decision to wear a black shirt.
I tried to wipe my face as I frowned at Jack who approached me in the dark slowly.
"Jaccobi?" A man's voice surprised me as I felt Vampyres descend to surround us. I dashed towards Jack and he gripped my hand as he faced the dark-skinned Vampyre that reminded me vaguely of Darius because of his light blue eyes and brown skin. "So, this is your Lycan. We heard you were spending time with a Lycan, but didn't believe the stories." The man said in a smooth voice that sounded as if he was at ease. I realized he was speaking to Jack and could smell fear from all around me and wondered if it was from Jack.
