Sudden Change

Chapter 18

Shayne POV

When I enter the house, I was surprised that Zayne is standing there holding his blanket, I can tell that he's fighting his sleeps.

Courtney and him spend their whole day here and he have school tomorrow.

"Oh hey there buddy. Why are you still awake? Where's mommy?" I asked him as I carry him and lock the door.

"Daddy, I think mommy isn't feeling okay." Zayne told me instead of answering.

"Why would you think of that?"

"Hmmmm.... She told me that she's okay... But I just feel like mommy isn't feeling okay.*sigh*" he lays his head on my shoulder.

"Don't worry, mommy is fine. If she isn't okay, you just need to stay by her side. Tomorrow we will make sure she's okay."

I put my bag on the couch and went to Courtney's room, and I saw her sleeping on the bed.

Maybe she's exhausted from work.

"I just get out off the bed when I heard your car." Zayne whispered to me.

I walk to the bed and put down Zayne.

"You stay here, I'll be back real quick. I'm just going to change my clothes." I told him and he nods.

I adjust the blanket covering Courtney before I left and went to Zayne's room to get clothes and change before going back to Courtney's room.

I saw Zayne looking and gently caressing Courtney's face.
I slowly sat at the other side of the bed.

"You better go to sleep Zayne." I quietly said to him, he nods.

When I lay down beside him, he grabs my hand put it at Courtney's side on top of the cover.

"Goodnight daddy."

"Goodnight Zayne." I kissed the top of his head.

After 30 minutes Zayne is already sleeping. I was about to get out of the bed but Zayne turns to me and put he's head against my chest.

"Daddy is here, you have nothing to worry." I whispered.

I know that Zayne is sad because he feels that Courtney isn't okay.

I look at Courtney. I put some of her hair behind her ear.

I made myself clear that you can tell me if something is bothering you.
I want to protect you,
But I wouldn't know if you won't tell me.

I put back my hand where Zayne put it.

I'll just sleep here for an hour before going to Zayne's room.

I slept longer than I intended to do.
It's already 5am when I woke up and  Courtney isn't here anymore.

I slowly get out of the bed and place a pillow beside Zayne before leaving the room.

I saw Courtney at the kitchen. When she look at me she smile before continuing what she's doing.

I grab a glass of water before stopping beside her.

"When I got home last night, Zayne was awake. I was supposed to sleep for an hour bu---"

"It's okay, you might be tired from work."

I put down the glass.

"Ahmm... Anyway, there's something I want to ask you."

She nod, and I take it as she want me to go on.

"Are you feeling just fine?"

I heard her chuckled.
