Sudden Change

Chapter 20

Shayne POV

Zayne woke up an hour after. He shows his drawing to Courtney and I.

After we ate dinner, Courtney stay at the kitchen and Zayne drag me to play with him at the living room.

We're piling some blocks and when the stack reaches at the height of his hip he will knock it with his remote control car.

And when we're piling the blocks again.

"Daddy, Teacher Amy will get married soon. She let me hold her ring that Mr. Lance gave him." He hands me the remote and he sat at my lap. And he seems already tired
"I met Mr. Lance again earlier, he's really nice. then I asked him why he gave Teacher Amy a ring, he said because he love her." Then he look at me.
"You love mommy right?"

I put down the remote control.

"Let me show you something." I whispered to him, he nods.

I carry him to his room and made him sit on the bed. I went to the cabinet where my clothes stored and get the little box that I've been hiding for months.

I sat on the bed and look at Zayne.

"Don't say anything to mommy about this, okay? This is..... like a surprise for her. I'm just waiting for the right time to gave that to her." I told him as I open the box and hand it to him.

"Wow, this looks so beautiful." He said when he took away his eyes from ring and look at me.

"Just for now, this is a secret between us. She doesn't need to know this yet."

"Okay Daddy thi---"

"Zayne? Shayne? Are you two done playi--- oh."

My heart is beating faster, I can hear her step getting closer. I tightened my hold of the box.

She closes the cabinet.

"So this is the reason why it got so quiet." I feel a fabric cover us. "You two are already asleep."

She turn on the lamplight and turn off the light as she gently closes the door.

I waited for a couple minutes to pass before I decided to open my eyes, and I met Zayne's eyes.

"Daddy we're almost got caught" he whispered.

"We dodge that one. We're doing a great job buddy." I told him and he giggled.

"You wanna sleep now?"

"I want to sleep beside mommy."

"Then we will go to her, but first we need to hide this first."

He gives me thumbs up.

We talked for a while before leaving the room and head to Courtney's room but she's not there.

Maybe she's still at the living room.

"You wanna change the cover first before we get her?"

"I'll hold the pillooooow!" Then he runs inside.

Moments passed and Courtney still doesn't show up.

"I'll go check on her, you stay here but if I took so long and you got bored just went to the living room, okay?"

"Okaaaay"

I leave the door open.

When I went to the living room, the toys that Zayne and I left wasn't there anymore. Then I saw her laying on the couch eyes closed.

Courtney POV

After I'm done at the kitchen, I noticed that it got so quiet and when I head to the living room. Shayne and Zayne wasn't there, Zayne's toys just scattered on the ground.
