The play was pushed back because of the murder. Everyone was a suspect. The police questioned everyone in the school. When I got called into the principal's office, I was nervous. What was I going to say? Was I going to protect him? I could turn him in...he wasn't supposed to hurt anyone. My mind went back to when I asked him that. His pause should have been a sign, it was already too late. Or was it? The detectives asked me obvious questions at first. What did you do yesterday? Who was with you? Which I answered all those with no problem. My memory took me back to the park with the phantom. The photo...
I told them about the fight in the park with Mandy.
"Could you hear anything that was said?" He asked.
"She was mad that he wouldn't be with her. He liked someone else." Did I feel guilty for making Mandy look guilty? Hell no. After what her mom did to me, she deserved more than losing a bit of her hair. They said their usual line. If we have more questions, we'll contact you, stuff was said. I went to my class and sat back down. They called for another student.
My mind just went to the phantom. How could he kill him? I knew he was jealous, but he promised! Why would he do that? After sitting for what seemed like forever, the bell rang. Amy met up with me in the hallway. Her eyes were red from crying. Down the hallway came Mandy. She was wearing a baseball cap to cover her head. Her friends were surrounding her. She was balling. "First my hair gets butchered, now Kyle! Even worse, the police say I was the last one to see him!" She ran into the boy's bathroom crying. The guys quickly ran out of the bathroom. One of the girls went in after her.
Amy made a small noise. "She's upset? She only wanted Kyle because he wanted you." I knew she wanted everything I had to make herself feel better. It was the only way she could survive. As we passed by Kyle's locker. It was covered with notes and a picture of him was hung. Amy and I left our notes on the door. A couple of other kids lit some candles. Amy looked at my face. I shed a few tears. He didn't deserve to die. I just wanted him to leave me alone...
Two weeks later....
No suspects. No clues. Nothing. Kyle's case was turning cold as ice. Rex called us all back for a meeting. Mandy had her hair styled to a short look. All the girls wanted it. She took this as a blessing. Saying, "I was chosen for this hair style." I knew it was all bullshit. The auditorium had the entire cast there. Rex was running late. Amy and Trent were sitting on stage whispering to each other. Amy was smiling and blushing. They were getting along great. Trent asked her the question two days ago and she said yes. I'm happy for her. Part of me wished I had a guy. But if I did get close to anyone... Rex rushed into the auditorium. "WE HAVE A PROBLEM!" Everyone stared at him in silence. "The principal said if we don't do some sort of advertising for the show, its canceled!" Rex collapsed into a chair. Trent shook his head. Amy got up and started waving a folder in front of Rex's face.
Mandy rolled her eyes. "We also have another problem. We have no Phantom. Therefore, no Phantom. No play."
I rolled my eyes at her sour puss mood. "So, we find a new phantom."
Mandy looked over at me and laughed. "I don't think you need to find us a phantom. The last one chopped my hair off, and I still believe you had something to do with it." I gave her a dirty look. I never told him to chop her hair off. Her eyes looked around. "And since Kyle died, our mystery phantom has not appeared or breathed a word."
Rex wiped his face with his hands. "What can we do to promote the play? We shall figure out what to do about the role of the phantom later."
Mandy jumped off the stage smiling. "The football championship is coming up next week."
Rex jumped up out of his seat. "We can't play football! This is drama, not sports!" Amy silently pushed him back into his seat.
Mandy cleared her throat. "We can perform a scene during half time. It won't be much, but it will help us promote it enough to gain some attention." Mandy was checking out her nails. Rex smiled as he jumped out of his seat. "GENISUS! Now which scene shall we do?"
