MAN ON THE MOON

"have you got colour in your cheeks? do you ever get that fear
that you can't shift the type that sticks around like summat in your teeth?"

2019

THE TWO ASSASSINS RETURNED TO their motel room, still half stoned. Neither of them wore their helmets, too out of their minds to remember putting them back on. What really gave Red, or now better known as Cha-cha, a kick out of that state of mind was when she opened the door to reveal their freshly-cleaned room.

"You idiot!" She yelled.

"What?" Hazel asked, jumping slightly from the tone of her voice.

"You didn't put the 'Do Not Disturb' sign on the door!"

"I— I did!" He mumbled, tripping over his words as Red scrambled into the room, pulling out her gun. "I know I..."

"Shit!" She ran over to the closet, where the two kidnapped Hargreeves children still sat, untouched. "Oh, my God, they're still here."

(Y/N) had heard them come in, but was unable to respond to their calls, for obvious reasons. Klaus was still half asleep but woke up as soon as the door's shutters were ripped open. The two of them were dragged out by the chair and Klaus mumbled incoherently, staring up at the unmasked assassins.

They took a second to properly adjust to the brightness outside of the closet, but both shared a similar look of surprise once they'd taken a look at the assassins' true faces.

His cheeks were naturally tinted pink, the blush from his mask leaving its mark on his face. His expression held a sort of innocence behind his hard-boiled exterior, the tinge of guilt bringing down the brightness in his eyes, as though he'd been scarred by these same few experiences many times before.

Hers was dark and sullen, as if she'd had a lot to think about since their recent... outing. (Y/N) knew that look all too well, having seen how the drugs affected people. The woman was battling for control, though just barely getting ahold of herself, she managed to keep a straight face after the mistake they'd made. Still, (Y/N) tried to find that same hint of subtle morality in her eyes, but was unable to see a single speck of guilt that she wouldn't have minded getting her hands dirtied if it meant completing the job.

Klaus continued to mumble through the tape, causing for Hazel to frown in annoyance. "What's he saying?" They ripped off the piece of tape binding Klaus's lip's together, then did the same for (Y/N).

"What are you sayin'?"

"You guys are scarier without the masks," Klaus laughed, before a sharp sound of a slap shut him up as Cha-cha struck him in the face, burning his cheek.

"That's no way to say hello to your old friends, is it?" Hazel mocked.

"Can't we call it a night?" Klaus sighed, "I already gave you what you wanted. Just, please... please let us go. Please..."

"Well, technically, we want your brother. Otherwise the both of you can stay in here to rot. Is your brother here now?"

Klaus chuckled lightly, "uh, he... You're gonna have to be a little more specific on that."

The woman struck him again.

"Beating us up all night won't make a difference as to whether or not he's coming, to which he's not..." (Y/N) whispered, lying through her teeth. She doubted he'd come to save them — it'd simply waste time from properly finding out who destroyed the world — but on the inside, she hoped that he cared enough to have at least tried to find them. "I'm telling you. No one will."
