WE ONLY SEE EACH OTHER AT WEDDINGS AND FUNERALS
"i'm scared of what you'll say,
and so i'm hiding what i'm feeling"
2019
VANYA WAS AS QUIET AS a mouse when going into her apartment. Not that she would need to make any noise or call out to anyone who was waiting for her, anyways.
She walked down the hall, keeping clear from knocking into her own bicycle in the dark hallway, and got her keys out of her pocket. She unlocked the for and swung it open just enough for her to squeeze in from. From the doorway, you couldn't see what was inside the house, so when she flicked on the lights using the switch next to the entrance, her heart almost jumped out of her chest when she saw two very familiar kids sitting in her living room.
"Jesus!"
The boy turned on a lamp from beside the two and said, "you should have locks on your windows."
"I kept offering to buy a few padlocks to have, just in case, but she always refused." (Y/N) pouted, then looking at her sister. "Sorry we scared you."
"I live on the second floor," Vanya defended.
"Rapists can climb," Five replied.
"And so can we," (Y/N) jutted in. "I wanted to get more answers from Five, but he said he wouldn't say anything before we could meet up with you. Too bad you left the academy so early."
"You guys are so weird..." Vanya said as she closed the front door and took off her scarf.
"Thanks," (Y/N) rolled her eyes with a smile on her face.
When the woman took a seat beside (Y/N) in the last seat available in the room, she took a closer look at Five's arm and asked, "Is that blood?"
Five merely glanced at the growing patch of red on his sleeve. "It's nothing."
"Shit... sorry I almost forgot about that—" (Y/N) jumped up from her seat and frantically jogged over to Vanya's kitchen. "I'll clean that up for you. Vanny, you still keep the first aid kit in here?" She said as she started looking for tools to fix Five up.
Five shook his head at Vanya when she was about to reply and settled into his seat.
When she had waited for Five to explain himself, he kept quiet, so she gave him a blank look."Why are you here?"
"I've decided you're the only one I can trust."
Vanya looked confused, "why me?"
"Because you're ordinary."
At this, Vanya gave Five a hurt look. In truth, she hated being called 'ordinary' as opposed to extraordinary. Constantly being reminded that she was normal. That she wasn't any different from others. She wasn't special.
Five noticed this and rephrased his sentence, "because you'll listen."
"I can't find the kit!" (Y/N)'s voice sounded from the kitchen.
"Try the bathroom, there should be some supplies in there!" Vanya yelled back, then lowered her voice to speak to Five. "And why not (Y/N)?"
"I..." Five's voice faltered, "I can't tell her yet. I don't know how she'll take the information and I just want to keep her safe right now..."
