WE ONLY SEE EACH OTHER AT WEDDINGS AND FUNERALS

"got a pistol for a mouth,
my own mama gave me that"

2019

FIVE AND (Y/N) WERE THE last customers by the time the other man had left. The two of them surrounded by a comfortable silence. They simply enjoyed each other's presence and Five had wanted there to be more time... He hadn't broken the news to (Y/N) about the oncoming apocalypse yet and after he had let it slip just moments before, she still thought it was only to come in the far future.

When the cafe front door swung open and a few figures stepped into the place, all armed with guns in their arms. Five watched in attentiveness through the reflection of the round bell resting on the table. (Y/N) must have noticed them come in, too, because her hand crept towards his in a warning and he held hers to reassure the girl that he had things handled.

"That was fast," Five was the first to initiate conversation as (Y/N) noticed a gun being pointed towards the both of their heads. "I thought I'd have more time before they found me." She silently cursed at herself for leaving her vest back at the academy, along with all her weapons after they got stuck on the wall when Five opened that portal to into their timeline.

"Five..." she said. It was more of a question than a call, though. She wanted to know if the men were either here for her or Five, and if it was for him, why there were even looking for him in the first place.

"Okay," the man in the front said. "So let's all be professional about this, yeah? On your feet and come with us. They want to talk."

"I've got nothing to say," Five said still unfazed.

"Who wants to talk?" (Y/N) twisted in her seat and narrowed her eyes at the man with the gun. He seemed surprised by how calm the girl was being. To be fair, it wasn't the first time she had a gun pointed to her head.

"That's none of your business, little girl." He didn't even take his eyes off Five. Big mistake.

"Excuse me? Who's this you're calling a 'little girl'?" (Y/N) got up and got up close to the man who didn't expect such a young kid to grab his rifle out of his own hands and knee him in the stomach, causing him to fall to the ground with a grunt.

And when (Y/N) had a gun...

Well, let's say things wouldn't end too well.

Before the other men could respond to their colleague's who was rolling around on the ground, Five appeared behind one of them and stabbed a butter knife into the back of their neck. A fucking butter knife.

Gunshots rang out through the small doughnut shop and the fluorescent lights overhead flickered after being hit at so many times.

(Y/N) winced as her head hurt from the constant shattering sound of glass or the ringing in her ears, but she trudged on, gripping tightly onto the trigger of the automatic rifle she held in her hands. She'd never used one, but she sure as hell was good at it for a beginner.

She barely noticed the blinking of Five's blue waves appearing and disappearing around her as she took swift and short shots at the men. When there were only three left, she decided to duck behind the counter to recover from the painful ache she felt in her head.
