WE ONLY SEE EACH OTHER AT WEDDINGS AND FUNERALS

"we were a pair,
but i saw you there"

2019

"HEY DI?" (Y/N) CALLED OUT to her brother before he could leave with Klaus from the balcony hanging over the lobby. "You can take my car in the back. I left it there from our last visit and it's not like I'll be driving it again anytime soon." She didn't smile at him like she usually did whenever they saw each other as she threw her keys down at him. Diego didn't blame her. He would be furious with himself too, but sometimes he couldn't control his anger, especially when it came to their dad. Only, his ego didn't let him admit it out loud.

"Thanks, (Y/N)..." he looked down at her keys and then back at his sister wearing an apologetic smile. "What will I tell Patch when her best friend's left her for another?"

"She'll understand." (Y/N) shrugged at the thought of Eudora finding out about the news. After such a long search for Five, he just appears in their backyard, without any notice. "I'll tell you when I'm done. Maybe we'll be able to squeeze in some time for patrol tonight."

"Heeeey!" Klaus came running out towards Diego and slid next to him, grabbing him by the shoulders. "You know, every time I close my eyes, I see a diarrhetic hippo about to shit on my face. It's terrifying!"

"Terrific," Diego sighed as he pushed open the front door.

"Have fun, you two. Bye, Klaus." (Y/N) chuckled lightly, already knowing what a combo the two made. She turned back towards the stairs and made her way towards the kitchen, where she had heard her other siblings gather up just earlier.

When she was just about to walk through the doorway, she was met with an annoyed Five pacing around and looking for something while Allison sat by the table in the middle of the room.

"Well, those two were definitely something..." (Y/N) rolled her eyes as she slumped into one of the seats beside Allison.

"I still don't understand how you could spend a whole ten years working with Diego." Allison's brows furrowed as she watched Five open and close random cabinets, probably trying to find a can of coffee.

"You've been working with Diego all this time?" Five's head turned in my direction. I could see that he was trying not to look surprised, but it wasn't working all too well.

"Yeah... It wasn't too hard. All I had to do was make sure he didn't get himself killed and stayed out of the house whenever he had his girlfriend around."

For some strange reason, at the mention of Diego's girlfriend, Five's shoulders relaxed and he finally shut the last cabinet, slamming a metal coffee press on the table. "I've been looking all over the place. An entire square block. Forty-two bedrooms, nineteen bathrooms and not a single drop of coffee."

(Y/N) scoffed, "why would you need to look through nineteen bathrooms in hope of finding coffee?"

Her joke went by, ignored, as Allison tried to reason with him. "Dad hated caffeine."

"Well, he hated children, too, but he had plenty of us." (Y/N) faked a smile.

Five walked past (Y/N), patting her back on his way back towards the stairs. "C'mon, (Y/N). I'm taking the car."
