Top Bounty (Story 3 - Part 5)

With Venno:

The Velociraptor demoness entered the office of Jerry 'Sniper' Rifele, the Spider demon sitting at his desk and taking a puff from his cigarette.

"Welcome back, Rapter. How was it out there?" asked Jerry, glancing out the window wall off to his left, seeing that it was now getting dark.

Venno sighed, walking over to the desk and taking a seat on one of the chairs in front of the desk.

"Well...where do I start? I went to the Science Facility next door, suggested by the front desk clerk down in the archives. I asked a group of Anglerfish demons about Dexx and had been told that he took off with a weapon they had been making about two years ago, then I went to the docks and spotted said Anglerfish demon entering an abandoned storage building near the end of the dock which turned out to just be a storage building full of old vehicles so I'm pretty sure that's not where his base really is. And then you know the rest after I accidentally forgot to turn off my walkie-talkie. Need I explain anything else?" explained Venno sarcastically, crossing her arms and glaring off to the side angrily.

Jerry sighed, picking up his own walkie talkie used to communicate with the other Bounty Hunters.

"You know, Rapter. You're probably the ONLY one who actually managed to get close to the Anglerfish demon. Usually he takes off before anyone else can even find him. But with you? From what I heard during your conversation with him, he seems to have genuinely taken a liking to you. You can call me crazy for calling it 'love at first sight', but it seems to me that this isn't the last time you'll be seeing him" said Jerry, putting the walkie-talkie back down on his desk and crossing his arms as he leaned back in his seat.

Venno's eyes widened at the thought of the Anglerfish demon developing feelings for her, making her heart race.

She snarled, shaking her head, getting the thoughts out of her head.

"You can't be serious, right? I mean, we just met face-to-face not too long ago. How can someone fall in love so quickly without even KNOWING someone for at least a few days?" chuckled Venno, trying to wave it off, but the look on Jerry's face made her gulp.

The Spider demon was just staring at her as if he could see right through her, his eyes narrowing.

"Like I said, it could be 'love at first sight'. I'm old enough to know what genuine love is like. I didn't detect any hints of sarcasm or lying whenever he spoke or complimented you" said Jerry knowingly, tapping his cigarette over the ashtray that was on the desk.

Venno scowled, wanting to change the subject.

"Alright, but this isn't the real reason why you called me back here" said Venno, glancing away.

Jerry nodded, taking a quick puff from his cigarette.

"That's right. I had a feeling you would be hung up over this bounty, so I decided to assign it to you for the long-term. That means that only YOU can hunt him down and bring him in whenever you do happen to run into him again. If any other Bounty Hunter spots him, I have told them to contact you and inform you of where he had been spotted" explained Jerry.

Venno gasped when she heard this, unable to believe what she was hearing.

"So...in other words...you've assigned the job of bringing him in ONLY to me?" asked Venno, wanting to get some clarification.

Jerry nodded.

"That's right. I know how determined you are, and you were the only Bounty Hunter to actually speak to him face-to-face. I think you have what it takes to finally catch the uncatchable, if you play your cards right" said Jerry, smiling.
