The Angler's Regrets (Story 7 - Part 4)

With Venno: 

The Velociraptor demoness woke up late, groaning as she felt a stinging pain in her sprained ankle. 

Venno sat up and quickly yawned before looking down at her sprained ankle, seeing the cast still wrapped around it. 

Rolling her eyes and just chalking it up to her ankle healing, Venno managed to stand up with the help of the crutch that Dexx had brought her just a few hours ago. 

Venno managed to walk over to the door to her room before stopping and sighing in annoyance at the thought of Dexx Angle trying to help her and keep her company. 

“What does he think he’ll be gaining trying to help me? We barely know each other, and he’s a bounty I’m hunting!” exclaimed Venno, muttering to herself, still shocked from when Dexx had arrived. 

Many thoughts were running through her head, the gears turning as she tried to come up with different explanations as to why Dexx had decided to help her and not escape to another city when he had the chance. 

Venno had been told by her sister and Arachnè that Dexx may have fallen in love with her, love at first sight as they called it, and even Jerry may have teased her about it the first time she met the Anglerfish demon. 

Venno shook her head, feeling a faint snarl escape her throat at the thought of her top bounty falling in love with her. 

“No, he’s probably trying to trick me to lower my guard so that I can let him go sometime in the future when I do finally catch and bring him in fairly. That’s not going to happen, Venno, and you won’t let it” said the Velociraptor demoness, trying to convince herself that it wouldn’t happen. 

She felt a chill run down her spine after saying this, feeling her heart thumping loudly in her chest. 

Shaking her head and scowling, managing to get rid of the feeling, Venno unlocked her door and opened it. 

Walking out and heading to the living, Venno stopped just behind the sofa and frowned when she saw that Dexx had decided to sleep the night, the Anglerfish demon laying on his back with one arm covering his eyes. 

Rolling her eyes, Venno decided to go to the kitchen to boil some water. 

She wanted to make something for lunch, considering she would be home for a few days while her ankle got better, since it was past noon and she woke up late.

And she didn’t want Dexx’s help, even though he was willingly offering it in the first place. 

Making it to the kitchen and grabbing one of the empty pots on the counter, Venno walked over to the sink and managed to fill up the pot before placing it down on the counter, sliding it over to the stove as opposed to picking it up and walking it over. 

Placing the pot of water over top and turning on the stove, Venno then turned and walked back into the living room to find that Dexx had woken up, the Anglerfish sitting up on the sofa and looking just as exhausted as she was. 

“What are you doing?” asked Dexx, glancing over to see Venno walking around with the crutch he had brought her as opposed to laying in bed like she was supposed to, just as he had thought. 

Venno frowned and glared at him slightly before deciding to answer, knowing there was no point in being angry at him, even though it was his fault that she had gotten hurt. 

“I’m boiling a pot of water. I’m making some lunch for me and my sister like I always do, although instead of going to the Bounty Hunter Agency afterwards, I’ll be staying here while my sprained ankle gets better. I hate to admit it, but Slendithera is right about me taking it easy. The sooner my ankle gets better, the sooner you can get out of here and I can hunt and catch you down” said Venno bluntly.
