Chapter 24: Love.
"When do you guys want to go out on the slopes?' Amir asks us.
We are currently sitting on the two benches on the front porch. Riley and Tobias occupy one bench while Amir and I seat on the other.
"Well, we just got here yesterday and we've gotten enough rest, so I'm guessing today." Tobias tells him.
"Great. I'll inform the people at the lifts." He tells us before he walks inside the house.
"What are you thinking about?" Riley asks me.
"What?" "Oh, nothing." I tell her.
"You were staring into space, are you okay?" Riley asks me.
"Yeah." I answer.
"Even though you're miles away from Zachary, you're still thinking about him, huh?" Tobias asks me.
"No, I'm really not. I'm just thinking about stuff." I tell them.
"Like?" Riley persists.
"Amir asked me to be his girlfriend last night." I blurt out.
"Whoa." Tobias exclaims.
"I know right." I say, folding my arms.
"Are you ready for that? You know, another relationship?" Riley asks me.
"I mean, I and Zachary relationship was only real for about a month. After that, he just started moving shady and doing shit with other girls. He might say he's changed now, but he did not love me. He clearly didn't respect me enough to be faithful to me."
"So, it'd be really unfair for me to curve every guy that wants something real with me, just because Zachary was a dick. I guess what I'm trying to say is...I'll give Amir a shot." I tell them."Well, don't tell us girl. Go tell him." Tobias says, patting my back.
Damn, I'm nervous.
What if his feelings have changed?
"Overnight? Valarie don't be ridiculous." My subconscious tells me.
I stand up and I walk inside the house. My eyes scan the living room for Amir. He's not here.
Maybe he's in his room.
I trudge towards the room and my movements falter when I hear Amir yelling at someone.
He's probably on the phone, because there's no one here except the four of us.
"Don't tell me to fucking calm down!!!" He roars and I flinch as I take a step back.
Maybe this isn't the best time.
I'll come back later.
As I turn on my heel, I hit a flower pot that I didn't even notice on the way here. The flower pot smashes on the floor, the sand in it spilling out.
Perfect.
Just perfect.
"Shit." I curse under my breath.
"Are you okay?" I hear Amir ask behind me.
"Yeah." I answer. "I'm gonna clean this up." I tell him before I crouch down and pick up the pieces of the broken flower pot.
"You don't have to do that." He says as he squats to my level, picking pieces of the flower pot.
"I made the mess, so I'll clean it up." I tell him and he nods.
We pick up most of the pieces and we head for the kitchen. We dump the pieces inside the trashcan and I grab a broom and dustpan as Amir washes his hand. Leaving him there, I head to the hallway and I sweep up the mess. When I'm done I empty the content of the dustpan in the trashcan and I wash my hands.
