Chapter 38: Job.

"It's that time, Vee." Tobias says and I groan.

"Do I have to?" I complain.

"Yes. You literally have to do this. You can't live off your parents forever." Riley tells me and I groan.

"Ugh, fine." I agree.

"Great. There's an opening at the school library, your interview is tomorrow at 9:00am." Tobias tells me and I roll my eyes.

"I can't believe you guys are making me get a job." I say, folding my arms.

"It's about time you got one. Every student on this campus has one. And you can't do cheer right now, so you'll have this job to keep you busy." Riley says, touching my shoulder.

"I'm so gonna blow this interview." I tell them.

I don't know what I was thinking when I let Tobias and Riley talk me into getting this job. I hate it here. I'm currently at the library working my evening shift and I want to kill myself.

"Do it." They said.

"It'll make you feel independent." They said.

Well, I don't feel independent right now.

I feel like shit.

I feel like a thousand bricks have encamped themselves in my lower back.

I am thirsty and I am hot.

"Can I go now?" I ask my supervisor, Karen.

"You'll go when your shift is over." She barks at me.

Bitch, watch your fucking tone.

I am not the one.

And today is certainly not the day to mess with me.

"It's literally twelve in the morning, nobody is here. Except that one kid at the back, but that's it." I whine.

"You will leave when I tell you to." She yells before she walks away.

I hate it here.

My phone rings and I answer it immediately.

"Hey." I say, weakly.

"Hey, are you okay?" He asks me.

"Yes, I am. I'm just stressed out." I tell him. "Why are you calling me?" I add.

"Heather told me you asked her to come see you in Chicago. And that you assaulted her in a restaurant. Is this true?" He asks me and my mouth hangs wide open.

"Um, no. That's not what happened." I say, rolling my eyes.

"Then what happened? He asks.

"Heather texted me three days ago and she basically told me to stay away from you. I left her in the restaurant and I never laid a finger on her." I tell him.

"Well, I just wanted to give you a heads up, because she now filed a restraining order against you and there is now a warrant for your arrest." He says and I laugh.

"What the fuck? You can't be serious, you're really going to believe her over me?" I ask him.

"Well, yeah. She's my girlfriend." He says and I gasp.

"Wow." Is the last thing I say before I hang up on him.

I don't need this bullshit right now. I'm tired, sweaty, my back is hurting. It's just too much.

"So, how was your first day of work?" Riley asks me as she pours pasta into the pan on the stove.
