Riley
Both of us got dressed and was ready to head out the penthouse. I messily tied my hair into a ponytail, pair it up with a coat, and I was ready to go.
To the girls who take an hour to get ready, I totally don't get you. And if you were the type who takes an hour to get ready, you wouldn't be able to live a day with Marcus. He's all about being punctual and stuff. Always giving me the bear minimum to get ready.
"Hey Marcus? Would you mind me going to the hospital to see my dad instead of going to the airport?" I searched for the other car key while asking.
"Sure. Just keep your phone on in case I need to contact you." He put on a pair of sport shoes and left the penthouse.
Since I wasn't in any rush, I took my time packing my stuff in the purse. Car keys, handphone, wallet... After a thorough packing, I finally left.
I reached the hospital in record speed. Even had time to stop for starbucks.
I went into the ward, and was welcomed by the beeping machine. My father, eyes closed, still in his deep slumber.
Then I received a text from Marcus.
Online
Marcus: You reached yet? How's your father?
Sent 1pmOnline
Riley: Yeah. Still asleep. I think I'm gonna visit my mother if you don't mind.
Sent 1:04pmOnline
Marcus: Sure thing. Still with my parents. Going to the hospital for some files later.
Sent 1:10pmI shoved the phone back into my purse and got into the car. Before I left, I asked the nurse to contact me the first thing when my dad wakes up.
I drove down the street all the back home. Now I only realized how far my house was from the NYC. I parked the car at the road side and made my way in.
"Mom! You home?" I knocked the door while calling out for my mother.
After a few minutes, she finally emerged and unlock the door. "Gee wiz, Riley where's your set of keys?" My mom used that inpatient voice of hers.
"Well nice to see you too mother. I left it at home, may I come in now?" By right, I did remember to bring the house keys but I totally forgotten that I brought them. Me and my bad habit of not bringing keys.
My mother stepped aside to let me in. After shutting the door, she launched herself back into the kitchen where I could smell freshly baked cookies.
"Yummy, I smell cookies." My eyes sparked and my stomach suddenly felt so much more hungry.
"No missy, these aren't for you. These are for the neighbors. They just gave birth to a new born baby." My mom rummaged the shelves for a decent looking cooky jar. Her hair was a bird's nest, and her clothes smelled like cookie batter.
"Oh common, at least a piece. Or at least a crumb." Before I could finish my sentence my mother jabbed in.
"Or at least give me some grandchildren." Wow, that one stung.
My mom always wanted grandchildren. Lots of them. Now with my dad in the hospital and her home alone, she wants them even more.
"Very funny mom. If your so lonely just play with the neighbors newborn baby." I replied while helping my mom put the cookies in the cookie jar. And trying to sneak a crumb if possible.
