Epilogue.
.
The double glass doors flew open. In came Aaliyah's swollen belly as the rest of her followed. Tupac wasn't expecting to see his wife this evening. To make things worst the OB/GYN had just gone on lunch break. A nurse got her settled into a wheelchair.
"It's time." Was all she told Tupac.
"Are you sure... w-"
"Yyes!" She whisper-yelled while clenching with her French tip nails at the passing contraction.
"Okay."
He blew a breath then rushed down the hall to find an empty room. Carefully he ordered each nurse on what to do. It looked like he'd be delivering this baby after all.
Flashbacks once again came to Aaliyah while she rested in the wheelchair. She remembered when she used to depend on one to get around. Those thoughts somehow made her contractions worst. She started to yell and bawl as one nurse came over to hold her hand. "It'll be alright... trust me."
The doors swung open for a second time in came Belinda and her Spanish fiance~Ricardo. "You know that I wouldn't miss this moment for the world." Belinda said with a grin. "I can't believe I'm going to be a grandma."
"You're the hottest granny I've ever seen." Ricardo complimented before they kissed.
Aaliyah looked away and caught the baby's tiny kicks in her hand. She didn't really have much to say about Ricardo other than he made her mom happy. Unlike her other boy toys he was also up in age. Gone was her flings with 26 year olds she was now a soon-to-be married woman. And she loved every minute of it.
Especially after being denied the rights to decorate Aaliyah and Tupac's wedding ceremony.
The left door swung against the wall bringing in a gush of August wind. Grace and Cedric stepped in as she went over to greet everyone. She grabbed hold of Aaliyah's hands making eye to eye contact. "This is what makes us women." Cedric stood by with a gender neutral gift bag in hand.
"It's a girl... I know it."
"It's a boy and I bet any of you a $100 that it is." Fatima and some members of her team showed up. "Y'all guess who I am?" One of the members joked with the basketball in her jersey top.
"Girl, stop fooling around."
"I brought my camera just in case." Fatima announced to the room while holding up her silver camcorder.
"I know you probably wondering why I'm here." Denise said as Torielle nodded behind her. "But after helping us win the summer game I just wanted to pay my respects."
"Right!" Torielle smacked her gum. "Rumors been going around that you got a lil lioness in there too."
"Future of the WNBA."
"Maybe..." Aaliyah smirked then they hugged right as she was being taking into the delivery room. "I hate hospitals." Aaliyah felt the need to share sounding more and more like her mother.
"Just lay on down... remember doctor's order." Tupac smiled. "You in good hands around here too since you're married to one of the best doctors around."
Aaliyah laid back after receiving an epidural. Her brown eyes counted the ceiling lights up a head. Any moment now she'd be holding and adoring her little one. She thought it was funny no one but her and Tupac knew the gender. Seeing everyone take wild guess was hilarious to her.
They'd make judgements based off of her food cravings and how her belly looked.
But the secret was kept between the two.
The medicine started to settle in as she laid there then it was time to push. Luckily she didn't feel too much of nothing as she went for a second push. "Push harder!!!" A nurse instructed.
"I ammmm!"
Each push became more intense then the last one. She like everyone else around wanted this baby out. At this point she didn't even care about getting a snapback body. Nor exercising afterwards all she wanted was a chance to rest. "You're doing great... just one more."
First thing she saw was rings of black curls coming from between her thighs.
A chubby pale face followed. "It's a baby girl."
"Can I hold her?"
"That's lil Amethyst Lilac Shakur right there." The secret was out and they had been planning her name since the beginning of this month. "She's perfect."
"Aww she's holding onto my finger already." Aaliyah cooed.
Amethyst opened her brown eyes briefly taking in the world around her. The many smiling faces and teary eyes. A nurse wiped her cleaned as she rested in mama's warm arms.
"We did it." Tupac said to Aaliyah and they kissed.
"Awww look at grandma's baby." Grace spoke as she sat aside a gift bag. "I should've known it was a girl with your marshmallow cravings."
"I feel so old." Belinda cried.
"When do we get to see it." They complained back in the waiting room. Maroon colored chairs aligned the walls on beige tile flooring.
"It's a girl!"
"I told y'all!!!" Fatima jumped up. "Now pay me my money."
Torielle smacked her lips. "You is her best friend so she probably told you.
"Nope!" Fatima responded. "I won...aye...I won."
It had all started out so rocky and unsure. But if all that led them to right now then they'd both do it all over again. She went from a broken heart to hearing Amethyst's heartbeat. And him from wanting love to finding one so true. Now with the new addition to their family they were unstoppable~The Shakurs.
Life had a funny way of ending up like that.
