.
She watched the building grow smaller from the rearview mirror the farther they drove. A cool breeze flew through her hair as she rested back on the seat of his BMW.
"Where are we going?"
"You'll see..."
He flicked on the radio to a Sade track, and she imagined the automobile from the night of the accident coming their way. But she wasn't scared this time. Instead, it felt like a confirmation from Ginuwine to move on.
Her head turned to Pac and a smile graced her features. He couldn't help but smile back. Aaliyah's was too angelic and contagious not too.
"What is this place?" They pulled up into the parking lot of a dull beige building where little to know vehicles were."Hideout." Tupac finally answered while getting her wheelchair from the trunk and helping her out. She wrapped her arms around herself as he pushed her into the place.
Inside was dim and zen.
Full of brightly colored fabrics, pillows, and crystals. Candles of almost every size decorated the area. It smelled of mint and patchouli oil in the air.
"Madame Zulu, I hope you don't mind but I brought a guest along."
Tupac introduced the two as Aaliyah waved. Madame Zulu was an elderly woman with a crater face who wore funny makeup and a scarf over her head. She gripped the ends of her flowy colorful dress when her small eyes landed on Aaliyah.
"Her legs?"
"She survived a real terrible accident, but she's doing well now." He said. "And will be making a speedy recovery."
His words somewhat soothed her.
"Let us welcome her, shall we?" She turned Aaliyah's chair around to the busy room where others stood lost in different activities. "We have another member, you all!"
Aaliyah awkwardly waved at the few guests.
"You come here a lot?"
Afterward, they went to check out some of the items. "Only when I need to balance my energy," Tupac replied. Which got her thinking why he thought it'd be a great idea to bring her along. Did he think her energies were out of whack and why did it even matter? She didn't believe this hocus pocus crap.
"These are rocks." She pointed to the glass-encased crystals.
"They are healing crystals."
"Same thing." Aaliyah retorted. "You aren't really about to spend money on on-"
"I need a carnelian to finish off my collection."
"You collect these?" She had to laugh. "Let me guess they have some magical power that helps cast away demons." She mocked but caught herself when his expression remained serious. Tupac didn't come off as the superstitious type considering his occupation but this definitely changed her outlook on him. "I can't believe y'all are paying for rocks!" She whisper-yelled.
"You know who you sound like right now?" He questioned. "Your mother." Before getting his bagged items from the cashier. "And spiritual cleansing has been around for years. It's not just a new thing and believe me it works I'm proof. You just have to buy the correct ones cuz there are a lot of scammers out there that's why I come here to Madame Zulu... she's the real deal."
"So the Cornellius what does it do?"
"It's pronounced carnelian and it symbolizes motivation." He revealed. "I've been trying to get my hands on one for months."
"I should get one." Her attitude switched. "Well, which do you think suits me? I could use some calmness and peace in my life."
"Then an amethyst it is." He suggested as they returned to the crystal stand. Aaliyah peered inside. Admiring each of them individually. "It's that one right there." Tupac pointed out the amethyst stone.
"What about the pink one?" She asked.
"Rose quartz."
"I want that too."
"Do you have rose quartz money?" He joked as they laughed.
The rest of their time there was spent meditating and trying the CBD oils. It was her first night outside of the hospital walls and one to remember.
