Time would prove to heal all wounds. Belinda kept her word and stayed away. Fatima busied herself with Harley. And Arias made occasional visits. Most of which he'd beg her to forgive their mother and her uppity attitude.
Aaliyah didn't budge.
She set out to teach Belinda a lesson about boundaries and respect. Neither of which her mother showed the day she freely down-talked Aaliyah's choices in life. Aaliyah convinced herself nothing she did pleased Belinda. Everything became an issue rather it was her career decision, mate or friends.
Arias left once again feeling defeated. He didn't know how long the two of them could keep it up. Which was the scary part about the entire thing. "I thought you left already," Aaliyah said while pulling the sheets over her body as a knock returned to her door.
Tupac poked his head inside. "Can I come in?"
He never asked for permission before, and she wanted to bring that fact to his attention. But she soon decided to leave it alone plus she found it slightly cute.
"I thought you were my kid brother..." she retorted. "And sure."
Tupac proceeded inside carrying two fresh copies of Toni Morrison books and the movie adaption of Beloved. Aaliyah brushed a strand of hair behind her ear. It was his off day. He could be anywhere. Why here? She thought.
Looking over each copy, she inspected it thoroughly.
"You can play the movie..."
"Ight!" He brought snacks from a vending machine, and they just chilled on a Saturday watching Beloved.
Tupac sat in a chair off to the side while Aaliyah laid in bed with her plushie close.
"Is she a ghost or not?" Her eyebrows furrowed. "This movie is confusing. I can't believe it made it to the big screen."
"That's why books are always better than the movies." He said in his deep voice.
"True." She nodded. "They're always leaving out intricate details." Despite the trash talk, their eyes stayed glued to the TV screen that hung in the corner.
Aaliyah did look over and notice how his fist clenched at the scenes of one of the main characters being mistreated. It was almost as if it wasn't a movie anymore. She kinda wanted to remind him it was. But didn't want to ruin anything. A nurse burst into the room doing her evening check and did a double-take once she saw Tupac there.
She was good friends with his Ex-Dekiya and didn't like what she saw here at all. Never before had she witnessed anything like it.
Sure, she didn't walk in on them tonguing or doing anything obscene. But this was a close second in her book. Days she spent listening to Dekiya ranting about her relationship and how he out of the blue dropped their engagement.
Only for her to find him here like this.
She became disgusted with them both and couldn't wait to transfer the news.
But Dekiya or anyone for that matter found this hard to believe that a man of his means could fall for a crippled.
Though it was true.
