Julians pov-
It was Tuesday now. That bastard hasn't returned any calls and he's been home for two days now. So instead of trying to get him to me, I'm going to him.
"Ms. Dillon cancel my meetings for the rest of the day. I'm going out."
The drive wasn't bad or far. I pulled up to the house- his car not here. Which was strange.
I knocked on the door. It opened abruptly- Kendall's eager, puffy eyes face dropped when she saw it was me.
"Is Hayden here?" I asked.
"No"
"Have him call me when he gets home"
"Get in line." She said softly.
"He's not back yet?" I asked. She shook her head. "You heard from him?"
"Not since Saturday. I have this feeling he isn't coming back" she said, her face turning red before the tears came. And for once, I felt bad for someone else. "I-I'm sorry." She cleared her throat. "I'll have him call you if I hear from him"
"Hey" I stopped her before she shut the door. I hadn't planned what to say after but she opened it again. "Have you eaten?"
"Not yet today"
"When's the last time you Ate?" I asked.
"Yesterday"
"What'd you have?"
"An apple" she shrugged, wiping her face.
"And?" I waited for her to finish her sentence.
"And water."
"Let me make you some food" I said letting myself inside. There were stuffed animals across the floor, bills laid out on the table with her phone, and sippy cups.
"I'm sorry" she said scrambling to pick things up.
"It's fine."
"I'm just a little stressed. Hayden- uh his card is frozen so the bills and then- just sorry for the mess." She stuttered over her words and cleaned the papers off the table.
"His card is frozen?" I asked. She nodded slowly. "Must be because of out of state purchases." I tried to ease her nerves.
As annoying as I find littles- I know how fragile they are. And I know how much she loved Hayden. And he kind of disappeared. So I was pulling out all the kindness I could find.
"Yeah" she ran her hand through her hair. "Please- help yourself to anything"
"How about a sandwich?" I asked. "PB & J?"
"Yeah sure. Just half." She said softly.
I sighed and nodded before making her a sandwich. I cut it in half and gave her the plate.
"I just wanted half"
"So just eat half." I shrugged. "Or eat it all. You need something in your stomach."
"I got distracted. I forgot"
"Forgot to eat? Or ignored the hunger?" I sat across from her. "My old old friend had some issues with eating, I can recognize the signs"
"I don't have an eating disorder." She said softly.
"So what is it then?"
"I get so anxious the thought of food makes me nauseous. I just don't like..food" she picked her crust off.
"Hmm." I watched her. "Take any meds for it?"
"Yeah. I'm out though. Da- Hayden was suppose to pick them up when he came back." She shrugged.
"After you eat we can go get them"
I don't know what it was about her but she made me less ... mean. Like I wanted to be kind to her.
She took a small bite and closed her eyes at the taste.
"That's good" she said after she swallowed."It's just peanut butter and jelly." I laughed. She finished half before just staring at her plate. "Are you done?"
"You don't like wasted food"
"It's not my food" I shrugged. "And I'm not going to make you uncomfortable. Save it for later."
She nodded and got up, putting it in a plastic baggy then placed it in the fridge.
"Get dressed. I'll take you to the pharmacy"
***"I'm sorry ma'am the card got declined" the lady told Kendall.
"Uh" Kendall scrambled around in her purse for loose money. "How much?"
"$32.79"
"Here" I handed the lady a $50. Kendall looked at me and I just looked away.
"Thank you" Kendall said to the clerk as she handed her the meds. "Here. I'll pay you back"
She tried to hand me my change and I just kept my hands in my pocket.
"I don't want it""Please. I don't want handouts."
"Put it in your purse and come on." I said shutting the conversation down. She shoved it in her purse and followed me back to the car.
I pulled my phone out and called Hayden. Hoping he'd pick up but like always he didn't.
"Hey Julian" Kendall looked at me.
"What?"
"You think he's coming back?" I could tell she was sad. It didn't take a genius to figure it out.
I honestly didn't know, "yeah. I think he will. Now get in. I'll take you back home."
"Thanks. For being nice and stuff." She said before getting in.
Nice. What a gross word.
