"I hope you don't mind that we ordered food and didn't make it." Mrs. Farrington says as we sit down at table in the dining room that I didn't see before. "We would've but we can't cook for the life of us."
"No, no, not at all." I reassure.
"Justin isn't a bad cook himself though." She says as he puts pasta on his plate.
"Really?" I ask. Never once in the all the time he lived in my house has he ever cooked.
He looks up "Oh yeah, me and Google make a great chicken pot pie." then he continues to put food on his plate as we all laugh.
Soon my plate is loaded with food even though I didn't put any of it on it. Once Justin was finished filling his plate he started to pile food onto mine. I just laughed and let him put one of everything that was ordered on my plate. I almost felt like it was Thanksgiving with how much food I had. The only difference was that this was Italian food.
I just took a bite of chicken parm when his mom asked, "So, I heard that you went to the barn the other night." I swallow and slowly say yeah, wondering how she knew. "The Adam's told me, You know Emily's parents? They ran into me at the store yesterday and told me that you-"
Justin's head snaps up. "They know?"
"Yes, they know Justin. Is that a problem?" She asks curiously.
He looks at me and raises an eyebrow. Get ready for the 4ft Jumpers. I could almost hear him say. "No, not a problem." He says to his mother.
"Anyway" She turns her focus back to me. "She told me that you snuck out in the middle of the night," I nod and let her continue. "Although I was upset that both of you snuck out. I'm happy that you finally went! How was it?"
"It was good, I guess. I only stayed for five minutes." I pause, then added, "I don't think I'll be going again anytime soon" Hopefully she'll make that clear to Emily's parents.
"Maybe you'll come around soon." She takes a bite of her penne al la vodka.
I get this confidence to ask her although I have no idea why. "Mrs. Farrington? I'm just wondering why do you care so much?" I make sure that I didn't make it sound rude. I was just curious.
She smiles, "Don't call me Mrs. Farrington. Every time I hear that I look for my mother-in-law. Call me Diana" She sighs. "I care because I saw how upset Justin was when you fell."
Justin looks confused "You were there?" He asks.
She shakes her head, "Somebody there got a video of it happening. I think it was one of the people your mom invited."She points at me. "They videoed the whole thing, from the moment you stepped in the ring to when you where loaded in the ambulance."
I couldn't believe it, how come my mom never told me? Okay, yeah I shut out on everyone but how come when I came around she never said anything? I look over at Justin and he is watching me, almost like he's hoping I don't continue the conversation. I shrug my shoulders, "I never knew about it." then take another bite of my food. I hear Justin let out a breath of air, obviously relieved that I didn't ask for it. I'll let go of it now but once I get home I'm asking my mom.
I only ate half of the food on my plate, which wasn't really that much to be honest. I could've ate the rest but I didn't want to seem like a fat ass in front of his parents. Diana gets up and starts to clean off the table and I take mine and Justin's plate into the kitchen to help out. "What are you doing!" I almost drop the plate into the sink as I spin around. Diana was standing, arms crossed. Then a smile breaks, "I'm sorry sweetie. I didn't mean to scare you. But you don't have to help."
