I went to bed at 9:00 that night. I was pretty tired, I feel asleep almost instantly. Which is weird because usually I just lay there thinking about the most random things until sleep finds me.
I woke around one in the morning.
Knowing what I wanted to do, I tried to fight it. I tossed and turned hoping to find a comfy spot. I decided to lay there and use my normal way to fall asleep.
2:00 am. Nothing.
2:30 am. Still nothing.
3:00 am. Nope.
I get up and quickly get dressed.
I open the guest bedroom's door thinking of Justin to be sound asleep but instead he was fully dressed.
"Oh My God! How long does it take for you to wake up and get dressed?!" he teased.
I didn't answer, I stood there stunned by the fact that he knew I would want to go again!
"How di-" I started to say.
"You haven't been to the barn in 5 months. Of course you're going to want to go again." he starts to walk past me. "Especially after what happened." he adds.
"What hap-" he cut me off again.
Once in the car and safe from mom hearing us I ask again.
"What happend?"
"Gina." he starts saying as he pulls out of the driveway. "Do you realize that that horse, your horse, hated the sight of people? Once a person would walking his stall, or even pass it, he would become wild! he would lunge at them, biting kicking. We had to send Sarah to the ER." he pauses remembering that day. "And if the person even got past that and tried to get on.... They wouldn't last five seconds.
But then you walked in his stall, I almost had a heart attack, but the second you talked there wasn't a trace of nastiness on him!he was back to his old, sweet self! That shit only happens in movies!"
I listen, he was right, this shit does only happen in movies.
"Well, then I'm going to make one badass movie one day aren't I?"
"Yes" he smiled. "yes you will."
This time, when I get out of the car, I run to Harry's stall. I was so excited to see him. His head was sticking out if his stall. He saw me booking it to his stall and he nickered.
"Hi boy, your happy to see me." I smile.
I looked into his eyes, there was no fire or bitterness. He had expected me, or just heard me coming down the aisle. I let out a slight laugh, it was quiet but I know Justin heard me.
Because it's later in the morning ( if that makes sense), it was lighter out so I could see Harry's actual color, not just his silhouette. the way the light hit him showed off his dark, dapple coat, gleaming.
"Guess not mean enough to keep him clean"
"Again, takes 3 men, it's not pretty, and the last time we groomed him was last week."
His voice came out so soft yet it startled me because it was so quiet around.
I turned around to face him.
"Why didn't you just leave him? Save the trouble?" I asked.
"Come on Gina!" he half moaned. "you know that would be unfair!"
How could that be unfair? Me disappearing was unfair. nothing could be worse than that!
I walk straight past Justin.
"Are, um, Gina? you okay? I'm sorry!" he said panicking.
I kept walking across the river of an aisle to my tack trunk. on the outside of the trunk was HARRY engraved on it. The color was navy blue with purple lining.
I opened it grinning, noticing that everything is in a different place. they do groom him.
I grabbed the halter and walked back to Harry. I slipped the halter on and lead him out into the aisle and started grooming.
As I groomed dust flew up and clouded around Harry.
Just as I finished Justin looked at me.
"We should get going, it's 5:30"
"What!"
I put Harry back in his stall and ran out to the car with Justin right behind me.
We were pushing the speed limit going home. I don't know why Justin cared do much for me not to get caught.
We pulled into the driveway, I speed walked into the house, taking the stairs 2 at a time and of course taking precaution on the noise level. I hear Justin chuckle. I get a little embarrassed but whatever, it's way better than getting caught.
