Overcome

Chapter Sixteen

As I dismount off of Harry Justin runs into the ring right next to me.

"Someones here!"  he urgently screatches, eyes wide.

My eyes widen, I jog Harry into his stall, Justin running right behind me. I slip his halter off and start to run to the tack trunk but Justin puts his arm out infront of me and pulls me under the water buckets, locking the door as he went down. Just as we both pulled in our feet, Mr. Ford, the manager walked past the door. My eyes open wider, I'm holding my breath in trying not to make anykind of sound.

I try to exhale nonchalantly but it came out all at once. Justin covers my mouth with his hand before I even get all my breath out.

Mr.Ford stops right infront of Harrys stall. H hovers there for a minute before saying "Worthless animal, you can survive with someelse other than that daughter of Lynns." then continues down the aisle of the barn making a left.

Justin gets up walking slowly and quietly out of the stall door, he holds my hand, leading me behind him. Once out of the barn, we quietly run out of the barn to the car, staying in the shadows. With headlights off, we turn onto the empty road. About a quater of a mile away from the barn, Justin turns his headlights back on.

"Well, that was close" he jokes, but is serious at the same time.

"I'm so sorryto be putting you through all this!" I blurt out. I lean back, that isnt what I wanted to say at all, my mouth spoke something different than my mind.

He smirks, " I wouldnt be doing it if I didnt want to."

We walk into the house, not loud, but not at all quiet either. Through these past months we realized that that my mom sleeps like a brick. We know because I've fallen up the stairs a couple of times, we opened her door to see if she heard me but sure enough, shes sleeping away.

I sit on my bed with my back touching the wall, I'm tired but I can't sleep, I didnt even doze off. Somethings got to be wrong with me, theres always something wrong with me.

I place my head on the wall and I hear it again, mumbling and then screaming. I look at the clock 4:34am. 

Then he's jolted awake about ten minutes later. A flash of guilt rises through me, I've shouldve woken him up. But it's too late now.

This time it takes him almost an hour for him to calm down and fall back asleep.
