We pull up into the courtyard at the barn with the headlights off. He opens the door, I stay in. Now I'm scared. "What am I doing here?" I whisper more to myself.
Justin comes around to my side, "you are going to go see your horse whose been waiting for you for a long time."
"I can't do this."
"Sure you can, come on" he says softly. He helps me out of the car. I freeze when I get to the giant barn door entrance. Someone's going to see us. Someone is going to hear these doors. "Come on." Justin says softly.
I walk in, wincing at the creaking on the doors. But then adrenaline surges through me. I speed walk down the aisle to his stall.
When I got there I walked in. Harry pinned his ears and whipped around to bite me "Hey? How did that get into you?" I speak quietly.
The second my voice was out, the meanness in his face wiped off as fast as it came on. He's staring straight at me now, wondering if it's really me. I stared straight back. I listened to his soft breathing pattern. I closed my eyes then took a deep breath. The smell of hay was always so good! I realized that I probably look like a idiot just standing there but Harry is still staring at me.
"Hey boy." I smile. His ears somehow move even further forward than they were before. He takes a step forward, then another and another. I'm next to him now. I put my arms around his neck and buried my face in the crease between his shoulder and neck. He actually put his head around me and hugged me back. We stayed there for what felt like five minutes but it really was an hour.
I whisper I'm sorry to Harry and that I'll see him soon. I don't want to leave, but I don't want to get caught either.
I got in the Volvo and tried to hide a smile. I looked at Justin and he was already looking at me with a smile on his face. "What?" I ask.
"I told you so." he mocks.
