The doorbell. That was what woke Amity. Her heart pounded in her chest. Who would it be at that hour? She glanced over to Luz, who was still fast asleep beside her, both of her arms wrapped protectively around the Blight. Amity sighed, gently trying to push herself away from her girlfriend and off of the bed. After about 2 minutes, she finally succeeded. The doorbell rang again, as Amity cautiously began to make her way through the dark hallways and into the entrance hall below. She took a step forward, entering the eerie hall to see a figure standing outside the door. But this figure was not the figure of a child or a teenager, but the figure of an adult. Amity's mind raced. Who was it? Before the doorbell could ring once again, Amity had her hand on the doorknob, gently turning it until it clicked open. She took a deep breath before pushing the door open to reveal....

"Good evening Amity," her mother said, staring down at her daughter.

Amity could hardly contain her surprise or her anger.

"Why are you here? You left. You left us and now you're suddenly back?"

Odalia stared at her in surprise, clearly not expecting her outrage.

"Watch your tone young lady, I am mother, and you will treat me as such," she said sternly. "Now, would you let me inside or will I have to make you?"

Amity stood to the side, allowing Odalia to enter the manor, her heart racing. She followed swiftly behind her, watching as she made her way into the kitchen and took a seat by the counter, her lips pursed.

"So, how have you and your siblings been?" she asked suddenly, making Amity scowl ever so slightly.

"Fine," she said. "Just fine thank you."

Her mother caught her eyes and scowled.

"You seem upset," she said, making Amity pull away from her gaze.

"It's fine mother really, it's not like you left us in the dead of night, completely unaware of what had happened," she said, her emotions pouring from her like a raging stream.

"Amity... I," she started but was soon cut off by the sound of a shaky voice trailing from upstairs.

"Amity?" Luz called, her voice shaking uncontrollably.

Odalia raised an eyebrow, looking over at Amity.

"Who was that?" she asked. "One of the twins?"

"That," Amity started, already rushing up the stairs. "Was my girlfriend."

Odalia stared at her in shock, her face seemed to be filled with disgust. Before her mother could say another word, Amity rushed up the stairs, tears already in her eyes. Luz stood by her bedroom door, her body rigid, when she saw Amity her entire face relaxed, before tightening at the sight of Amity crying.

"Oh god Ams I was so worried," she said, taking Amity's hands. "Are you okay?"

Amity nodded weakly.

"Yeah um, I guess..." she said softly. "I mean my mom just showed up out of nowhere and I kind of just told her that I have a girlfriend..." she stared back up at Luz, her golden eyes rimmed with tears. "I wish she would just leave me alone... leave us alone... I'm so sorry."

Luz gently put her arms around Amity, allowing her to bury her face in her shoulder.

"Calm down Ams, just calm down," she said soothingly, stroking Amity's hair. "You don't have to let her stay. You don't have to let her just waltz back into your life. You don't have to let her do anything. You can tell her to leave Ams, you realize that right?"

Amity nodded, before pulling away and coming face to face with Luz.

"I know Luz I just.... she's my mother, and as much as I hate her and want her to leave, I'm scared of what she'll do. I'm scared of what she'll do to me. But I'm terrified of what she might do to you..."
