i suggest listening to the song while reading the chapter!!

Luke:

“Blaze,”

The name that I couldn’t pronounce properly without a dehydration developing within the walls of my mouth left my parted lips effortlessly.  A mix of emotions bashed against my hallow heart when my watery eyes studied the edges of her physique, processing the changes. No sounds quivered off of her painted lips, although her nervousness did not need to be shown with a stumble of words. A crimson shade tinted her cheekbones as she stood, her hands pressed against the side of her thighs.

The space around us turned so noiseless I could hear her swallow before she greeted me. “Welcome to Amy Records Mr. Hemmings, it’s an honor to have you here. May I escort you upstairs where the others are?”

I didn’t answer.

The feelings that bounced inside of me had questions of my sanity appear in my head.  I diverted my eyes to the marble floor, where her black heels clicked on. My hands longed to touch the smoothness of her exposed skin but wrath dawdled on my tongue from the recurring ache she had buried deep inside my chest the moment she escaped from my life. I knew the time I was stretching was not helpful to this situation but I didn’t want to be logical.

I didn’t use words, just the movements of my legs to signal I was ready to arrive at the next destination. The scent of her perfume settled in my lungs, leaving a scorching reminder of her beauty. Blaze kept the distance among us more than breathable as her trembling hands fumbled with the keys on the elevator’s wall.

“Mr. Hemmings, are you sure you’re alright?” Blaze asked, masking concern over her face.

I scoffed, her question the most ironic thing I’ve heard this week. “No,” I paused, exhaling noisily. “No I’m not.”

Blaze bobbed her head, a curl falling over her forehead.

“Because the love of my life, the reason for my everlasting heartbreak is standing next to me, acting as if nothing ever happened between us.”

A hand lifted up to her forehead, her thumb pressing into her temple as if a headache had occurred. “Luke, please, not right now.”

The doors to the machine opened, having a groan suppress from my lips when she raced out.

My actions were rapid, my hand reached out for hers. “Then when Blaze?” I desperately searched for any hope.

She regarded my touch and I swore I could see the pain I had flash on her cerulean eyes. “Just not now.”

My attempt to stitching up a conversation with her failed and knowing the power I used to have over her was now slipping through the spaces of my fingers; hurt. Irritation engulfed my poor posture as I sauntered into the room that was chiming with laughter. My eyes observed a lean, olive skinned boy pressed against Blaze as he grilled her with questions that obviously made her tense. I tapped on Calum’s shoulder, who was pouring himself a hot cup of coffee.

“She has a boyfriend?”

“Dude, I don’t know. I only had a few words and a hug with her. Why do you even care?” Cal sipped from the heated beverage, cringing when he saw Michael dump half of the sugar into his mug.

“I care because I can Cal, look at her; she doesn’t look that calm.” I pointed out, squinting my eyes.

He rolled his brown ones, grunting. “It’s none of your business.”

Bluntly, I responded. “Calum you’re really starting to piss me the fuck off so I suggest you stop.”

“What did I do?” He exclaimed, lifting his hands so high some liquid clashed onto the wooden floor.

He did nothing, but I was still mad and he was the first one I came in contact with.

There was no right I could possibly think of that would allow me to be aggravated that a boy had my old girl in the palm of his hands but that wasn’t going to stop the heated mess in my mind. Every time I took a glimpse of the two my heart beat would quicken and a numbness would spread across my fist. Irregular breaths were all I took throughout the thirty minutes I mentally tortured myself by viewing them.

“Princess Luke, simmer down.” Calum giggled.

“Why are you laughing?”

“Because you’re a drama queen. It’s time to get over her dude, she moved on.” His words were the truth but honesty cut through me like blades.

“I’m not a drama queen.”

“Alright Mrs. Hemmings.” He teased, grabbing his caffeinated drink and pressing it against his bottom lip.

He was aware of the mood I was drowning in but he still constricted the frustration that knotted securely around me. My face was stiff, a glare plastered itself over my eyes, this time in the direction of an amused Calum. I breathe out deeply, another unsuccessful effort to bring down my negative sensations.

Calum mocked my actions “I’m just joking bro, don’t need to go all diva on me.”

“Calum you know he’s upset, stop adding onto it.” Michael bumped his arm, his voice low and quick with seriousness.

Calum sighed, a slight smile tugging at his lips when he apologized. “Sorry.” He then smacked Michael’s arm, bringing Michael’s attention to me. “But last time I checked, the only girl in the room was the one who had her life together and wasn’t acting like a bitch.”

“Why are you being suck a-“

In this moment, it felt as if Calum unlocked the caged door to a monster him and I both knew I had no control over. First, it was a jerk in my left fist right underneath his ribcage, earning a moan full of agony spur out from his mouth. Then it was as if my ears cut off all the sounds that surrounded us, not allowing my mind to bring me out of this deep aggression. I felt palms slide against my arms, but no one could grip onto me.

“Luke, bubs, please stop it!”

Everything froze; my actions, the hurt, the cries and the running. My irises amplified, staring at the distressed women whose hands clenched around my fist that rose up. I dropped my arm, her hands moving back to her waist.

“What did you just call me?” I sneered.

Blaze frantically replied. “It was a mistake.” She coughed to disguise her shock. “But Mr. Hemmings you need to stop right now. I will not condone any type of physical violence in this building, especially if I’m held accountable for your safety.”

Her reflex was quick and not expected, but she couldn’t call me that after everything. “You know what I won’t condone? You. I won’t fucking condone how you’re treating me like a stranger. Because I’m not a damn stranger Blaze and you and I both know it. And if you really were accountable for my safety you wouldn’t have fucking left me in the first place!”

My throat was not prepared for the strain I put it under as discomfort welcomed my mouth and heat spread across my face.

“Luke.” Blaze breathed. “This not the place nor time for us to discuss this. I am trying to make this day go as smooth as possible and your tantrums are not helping. Now please for the sake of the show you will put on after the signing; stop talking, rest your voice.”

Defeat was all I felt and mute was what I stayed till we were called out.
