Diamond's POV
"You didn't celebrate holidays?" She yelled.
I shook my head. "Wasn't allowed to. I thought it was just a movie thing. I didn't know people celebrated birthdays, New Year's eve, New Yers, Halloween, or any of that stuff."
She was shocked. "That must suck."
"Well it was all I knew. It wasn't bad until I found out I missed out. Well, we can celebrate whatever holiday is next." She said with a laugh. "When's your birthday?"
"December 31. Just passed."
"Well, tonight we're gonna celebrate. Late birthday party!" I laughed.
The radio changed songs and I gasped. "I KNOW THIS SONG!" I said excitedly.
She laughed. "Elvis fan?"
"Not really. Just one of the only songs I know." I said with a laugh.
"Let's start off our party!" Kaley said.
I ran up to the stage and we sang. Let me tell you this, we aren't good and there's no way we'll ever be professional singers. Not by a long shot. But it was still fun.
I didn't realize it but people were outside and they kept looking in. The fun faded away.
"What happened?" Kaley asked.
"There are people crowded outside." I said.
"That's not a bad thing. Most people like you. This place was packed last night and most people were on your side."
I almost laughed. "Haha very funny."
"I'm serious. I was like the only person who thought you deserved to be in jail and now I'm glad you aren't. You're really cool."
"Well, thanks I guess."
"Here. Get yourself a glass of water and I'll find the remote to turn the TV on."
I got a cup and filled it up with tap water. She scrambled through the drawers to find the remote and she turned it on.
"Mafia leader, Diamond Ross was set free to roam the streets of New York last night. Some say they saw her using a payphone and then disappeared later that night. Where is she now?"
I was sitting on a barstool behind the counter with my feet propped up and I was kinda intrigued to see what they were gonna see.
"Well, Jared, were standing outside Michael's Bar where Diamond Ross was sitting with another girl."
A picture appeared on the TV of me and Kaley. My eyes widened. I stopped paying attention to what what we're saying and I was focusing on the fact they just took a picture of us. Then they put a clip of us singing and I spit my water out.
"Oh my God..." Kaley mumbled. "All America just heard our awful singing."
I was still sitting there dumbfounded while looking at the TV. Then a live video came on the TV and I dropped my glass and it shattered when I saw myself on the TV.
Fuck.
I stood up and walked to the back. I did not want to deal with this right now. I don't think I'm in the right place to see that anyway.
Dallas' POV
We were back at the Curtis' house and we were watching TV and people in New York are very invasive.
"Let's hope she doesn't plan to pursue a career in singing." Sodapop said with a laugh.
"I doubt she will." I said with a groan.
"Someone's angry." Ponyboy said.
"What was your first clue?" Johnny asked.
I was too angry to argue. Seems kinda contradicting but I didn't care at this point.
Diamond's POV
Our break time was up and Kaley opened the doors and people flooded in. It was crazy how many people there were. She was right. There were a lot more people than there was this morning. There were more people working at the night shift too so it took a little bit of stress off of me.
But I had people asking me so many questions. It was overwhelming.
But on the bright side... I made a hell of a lot of tips. Not enough to pay of the diamond on my finger but enough for a night at a hotel.
The night ended and Kaley was worn out. "You ok?" I asked.
"That was a crazy night."
"Really?" I asked.
"Yeah. We haven't ever had a busy night like that. The tips I got were astronomical.
"Diamond!" Someone yelled. We both looked over in the corner and Michael Greene was there. "Hiring you was the best decision I have ever made. I got this place when I was 18 and I've never had a night like that in my 12 years of working here."
I laughed. "It was... a lot." I said unable to think of the word to use.
"Well, I'm glad you're here."
I laughed. "Me too."
Diamond's POV *Six months Later*
I am not anywhere near where I need to be but I'm done with New York.
I've only called the gang once because it's a lot of money to call out of state and it was only for five minutes too.
But my feelings have changed.
I've made 1/45 of the money I need to pay this off. It's been half a year. It would take 22 years to get all the money if I kept this up.
I cant do that.
I want to see Dal again.
I want to see the gang.
Sorry mom. I love you but I'll move on.
She tortured me everyday of my life. I sat there and suffered in that hell hole because of her.
One day, I'll hopefully replace it with something better.
I turned the ring in and I signed a bunch of legal documents that said I can leave the state again.
Then I turned the ring in.
I gave away the last piece I had of my mom but I didn't even care. I'm going home.
