"It wouldn't bother me," Shen Wei said as he put on his necklace. "But, if it bothers you, let me know when you want to wear yours, and I'll take mine off."
"It wouldn't bother me, either," Zhao Yunlan smiled as he put on his necklace as well.
"Thank you, Zhao Yunlan," Shen Wei's voice was gentle.
"Thank you, too, Shen Wei," Zhao Yunlan's voice was equally gentle, as he closed the door behind him.
The day after President Zhao gave his press conference about that prank tweet, Shen Wei also did his own, deeply apologizing for the chaos and then embarrassment his company had caused. Everyone could see the sincerity in his eyes and words, and slowly, they began to forgive him when they realized that he was also a victim.
One possibly good thing that came of the incident was that Zhu Jiu was less antagonistic. Whether it was because President Zhao spoke to him in private, but Zhu Jiu was uncharacteristically quiet, not saying much during meetings, and leaving immediately afterwards. When Shen Wei went to his office to give him a belt he had gotten in Singapore for him, he gave a little snort and tossed the bag on the chair. But when Shen Wei saw him a little later in the day, he had on a new belt.
Life returned to the usual routine for Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan: workout, lattes at Sister Chen's, then meetings all day long.
One afternoon, the security guards in the building were in an uproar, and they anxiously filled the elevators. Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan happened to be in one of them, and the guards apologized as they got in.
"Did anything happen?" Zhao Yunlan asked.
"Um," the guard looked at the others, unsure of what to say.
"Tell me," Shen Wei commanded in his CEO voice.
"There is a possible jumper on the rooftop," the guard blurted out. "It's Wang Ziqiang, the one who sent out that prank tweet so that those women would mob you at the airport."
"We did not press charges, so he was able to leave prison early, but unfortunately we could not give him his job back. Is he upset with that?" Zhao Yunlan said.
"He still had things in his locker, so he came back today to get them. Of course we were with him while he did that, but I'm afraid we were a little lax since we knew him personally. We looked away for just a minute and he was gone. Next we heard he was on the rooftop - our surveillance cameras tracked him all the way."
The elevator doors opened and they took the last several flights of stairs to get to the roof. On the edge stood a sad, figure, shoulders heaving with sobs. His name was Wang Ziqiang, according to the security guard.
"Wang Ziqiang! Don't do this! Come down now and you can walk out of the building, no questions asked!" Zhao Yunlan called out to the man on the ledge.
