"See how good you are already?" Shen Wei stood up and they both walked towards the shower room to wash up. "Look after me, okay?" he said in a soft voice.
"Of course," Zhao Yunlan's voice was sincere.
Perhaps it was because Zhu Jiu had been keeping his distance after Yezun warned him about boundaries. Or possibly it was because the daily workouts were helping. Or maybe it was simply because he had a new confidant in Zhao Yunlan. Whatever the reason, Shen Wei did not lose time for several weeks.
The contract signing between Dixing Energy and Mo Xiang Tong Xiu went smoothly, and as Shen Wei had correctly predicted, her book "The Untamed" was an instant hit, with printed and online book sales taking off as soon as they were made available. Talks were already in the works for a TV series, and a manhua soon to follow. "The Untamed" promised to be a money-maker for both Dixing Energy and Shen Enterprises, which improved Shen Wei's image with the company, as well as put a sour expression on Zhu Jiu's face.
Zhao Yunlan proved to be a very capable assistant, and he effectively managed Shen Wei's appointments as he got busier. He seemed to have a knack for knowing which meeting would take longer, and so would allot extra time. He also had a good understanding of the company overall; having been a driver for several years had allowed him to be privy to many conversations in the cars. Shen Wei would bounce ideas off of him, and he was very good at playing the devil's advocate and debating with him. It was very effective in preparing Shen Wei for the sometimes very trying board meetings with those who still wanted to bring him down.
More than that, Zhao Yunlan had become Shen Wei's good friend. When they were not talking about business or Shen Wei's mood swings, the pair would go to video arcades to release stress, fiercely competing against each other. They would go to noodle shops and discuss which of Yezun's cars was the best. Or whether it was better to stay in the underwater Conrad Rangali Island Resort in the Maldives, or to climb up a steep wall of rock and stay in the suspended Skylodge Hotel Peru.
Shen Wei had been in a meeting with Zhu Jiu and his followers, all of whom, as usual, gave him a difficult time, challenging everything he said. But because of his mini debate with Zhao Yunlan during their morning workout, he was easily able to counter each of their little attacks. Even President Zhao who had decided to sit in was impressed and congratulated Shen Wei after everyone had left.
He was in a particularly good mood, and instead of going straight home, he told Zhao Yunlan to take him to the Char Bar & Grill. To be honest, he often thought about how he had felt when he woke up the next morning after Yezun went there the first time. His stomach was still heavy with meat, but he had not had the pleasure of tasting it. And on a deeper note, he felt left out that Zhao Yunlan had also enjoyed it, not with him, but with Yezun. It was silly - how could he be jealous of his own personality? He closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
This time the host at the Char Bar & Grill ran to open the door as he saw Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan approaching.
"CEO Shen! You grace us with your presence again! I hope that means you enjoyed your Tomahawk steak the last time," the host gushed, as he led them to the same table in the back of the restaurant.
