"Shen Wei, your mood swings are giving me whiplash." Zhao Yunlan knew that keeping up with the new CEO of Shen Enterprises would be a challenge.
Based on Guardian characters created by the wonderful Priest, and heavily influenced by the Korean dram...
Zhu Jiu was in a bad mood. He was in the midst of a most enjoyable rendezvous with his mistress when his wife called. That alone would not have bothered him; his wife knew about his "extra-curricular activities" and he normally he would have hung up on her and continued what he was doing. But it was her news that made him stop and push his mistress aside - his sickly uncle Shen Yilong, CEO of the powerful Shen Enterprises, had died.
He grumbled as he washed up and got dressed to go to his uncle's home; he supposed he should pay his respects for the sake of appearance. VIPs and other members of the board would certainly show up, and he, as the next CEO should be there to greet them. He understood that. Still, it was quite inconsiderate of the sick old man to die at such an inconvenient time.

Zhu Jiu saw the traditional white banner over the open door to the house, signifying that a death had occurred. He told his driver to bring a change of clothes in the morning, knowing he should stay the night. His mood improved as he stepped into the entrance way and looked around. He had always coveted this mansion, and with some renovations here and there, it would become his home when he was sworn in as the next CEO. The house staff would have to be reviewed first, though. They had all been fiercely loyal and dedicated to his brother, and he and his wife were not very popular with them. Hmph. The lowlifes. They could easily be replaced.
He took a few seconds to put himself into a mourning mode - hunched shoulders, head down, and he shuffled his feet as he made his way through the huge house and upstairs to his brother's room. His wife was already there, sobbing loudly into a handkerchief. She had apparently rushed out of the house without makeup and messed up hair - or maybe that was the impression she wanted to give - and she gave him a "what took you so long?" look. He looked down at another figure, sitting on the floor and crying while holding the dead man's hand. He rolled his eyes in exasperation. It was the man's son and Zhu Jiu's cousin, Shen Wei. While the place was certainly large enough for all three of them to live in, he did not want this eyesore under the same roof. He would have to handle it delicately, but he would have him leave.
"Shen Wei, I'm so sorry for your loss. I'll miss Uncle, too," he said as he forced himself to put a hand on the crying man's shoulder, hoping that it felt somewhat sincere.
"Thank you, Zhu Jiu," Shen Wei looked up, his face full of tears. "You were so good to my father."
