Persephone’s P.O.V.
We travelled with Luke all the way to California, staying in a cheap motel somewhere at the end of the road. During the trip, loud music was blasting through the car’s speakers, as we sang at the top of our lungs. We talked about everything; our relationships with Electra and Michael, his friendship with Leah, the siblinghood with Ashton and Calum, old memories back in Heaven, before the Fall. I remembered one characteristic moment with them.
Our Father had asked me to take care of Michael, Gabriel and Raphael while they still were young, while He planned other stuff, which I never paid attention to. Teenager Michael used to be a bit spontaneous and noisy, chasing me all around the Garden of Eden. My wings were much bigger than his, and this made me faster and more flexible with my flying. But here’s the thing with the Garden of Eden; Father had kept the Leviathans in there and that made it slightly dangerous for kids to enter. Michael and I, though, were naughty and sneaked inside the huge walls that engulfed the Garden. There were tall trees everywhere you looked at, with various kinds of fruits. No, we didn’t get to meet Adam and Eve, because it was simply a metaphor humans created. Anyway, we walked inside, goofing around and screaming at each other, when we suddenly heard a thunderous groan. We froze in place, when one of the Leviathans started marching towards us. It was like an enormous sort of dragon, but not the usual green/black, long teeth-long tail monster humans picture it as. I couldn’t remember how it actually looked like, but I recall for sure that it was big, long, and beige. (That was pretty vulgar in Luke’s ears and he was right). We were so young, we actually thought it wanted company, after being alone for so long. When we apprehended it was basically going to swallow us alive, we ran our asses off, but there’s one thing you don’t know about the Garden of Eden; once you get in, you never get out. We tried to fly over the wall, but it was as if there was an invisible magnetic field keeping us inside. We were panicking and flying around. It was terrifying, just the thought of it makes me sick in the guts. We tried to shout for help, but nobody could hear us. Long story short, we managed to somehow weaken the monster, break the wall and walk out, after making sure the Leviathan wouldn’t escape for a long time. It’s all fun and games until someone gets captured inside the Garden of Eden.
Meanwhile, we settled in the tiny motel we found. The red haired girl at the reception started giggling, which confused me, since there was nothing weird about me and Luke and our backpacks.
“Is there something funny about us?” I kindly asked.
“No.” She replied.
“Then why’s the laugh for?”
“Nothing.”
“Oh, okay, you’re just stupid then.” I said sarcastically. She gasped, as I grabbed the key off her finger and then pushed Luke forward so we could walk to the room.
“What was that for?” He whispered, fixing the backpack on his shoulders.
“Nothing.” I replied, imitating the girl’s monotonic voice, causing Luke’s loud laughter. “At least we have a reason to laugh.” I shouted, walking inside the room. We scattered the content of our backpacks on the beds. It was all some weapons, a few clothes, holy water. Ordinary travelling material.
“Are you up for some adventure, kiddo?” I said, not looking at him, because I was busy hanging some clothes inside the wardrobe. (Yes, this god awful place had wardrobes except staff’s attitude).
“Um, I was thinking of just relaxing. I mean, it’s 23:30 after all, and I admit I’m kinda tired.” I turned to face him sprawled on the bed, which I hadn’t noticed it was a king sized bed. That bitch did that on purpose.
“Luke.” I pointed at the bed. He mouthed ‘what’ and balanced on his elbows, taking a clearer look at the bed. His eyed goggled and I laughed again.
“Oh God. Does this mean…”
“Yup, tonight you’re cuddling with your old sis Persie!” I teased and he scrunched his nose, hiding his face inside the pillows. “I have an idea!” I yelled, and he jolted in shock. “We should go night clubbing.” I proposed and he glared at me.
“Persie, we are trying to hide from the Devil, we’re not on vacation. Please, I promised Michael to keep you safe. Let’s not risk it.” Well, he was right, but I was in a good mood and, to be honest, I wasn’t that tired.
“C’mon, we’ll be safe, don’t worry. What could possibly go wrong?” I started bouncing on my spot, as I stared at Luke, practically begging with my eyes.
“Famous last words.” He murmuredat himself. He cocked an eyebrow at me, smiling. “Come on, let’s go.”
