Chapter 31

When Niall and I arrive at Louis's house, I run into the direction of the police cars, pushing past the officers and medical personnel. When my eyes fixate on my kids, something pulls me back and I gasp in surprise.

"Ma'am this is a crime scene, you can't be -"

"That's my kid, that's -"

"The boy who found Josie is our kid, officer," Niall says behind me, catching his breath along with me.

The officer lets go of me and I immediately sprint into the direction of our kids. I engulf them in my arms, placing my head on top of Nathan's, "It's okay. It'll be okay."

"Mummy," Nathan sobs as he grips the white tshirt that I have been laying in for a day. I move my arms from the girls and focus my attention on Nathan, mumbling it's okay baby hundreds of times.

Niall is talking to the girls while I keep my focus on Nathan, who is still crying. When someone clears their throat behind me, I look up and turn around with Nathan in my arms. The police officer that held me back is staring down at me with a sympathetic look, "I'm sorry, Mrs Horan, but I am going to need a statement from your son."

"And traumatize him any more?" I shriek as I gape at the man.

The officer looks uncomfortable, while Niall leans down towards me, placing his hands on my shoulders supportively, "They're just doing their jobs, Jess. I'll take him with me. Why don't you talk to the girls?"

"Niall, that's your ex he is going to talk about," I say giving him a doubtful look.

"I know, and I can tell them whatever information they need. Do you trust me?"

I nod before he places his lips to my temple and grabs Nathan from underneath his armpits. I mumble a bye before turning my attention towards the girls. Standing up, I wrap my arms around the both of them, sighing in relief, "You two okay?" I ask softly.

"Of course, Mum. Are you?" Sydney asks, pulling away and looking at me with worry.

I give her a small smile, placing my hand on her cheek before pressing my lips against her forehead, "I am now knowing you guys are okay. I'm so sorry I wasn't there, I should have -"

"Mum, you and dad were in a rough spot. We get it. It's been tough on everyone lately," Emma says softly, her eyes focusing on me.

"I will explain everything later, just please give your dad and I some time. Okay?"

Both of my girls nod before I lean over to Emma and kiss her on the forehead. "I love you guys."

"We love you too, Mum."

Ten hours later, everyone is finally home and I've finally put everyone to bed. When we got home, Niall was different. I knew that if he went with Nathan, he would have gotten affected.

I feel awful. I should have argued with him.

"Niall," I whisper as I crawl into bed, next to him. Niall hums in response, looking up from his phone, "Come here."

Josie is officially dead.

"I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight, Jess," Niall sighs, placing his phone on his nightstand and running his hands over his face.

"I'm not asking you to fall asleep. I'm asking you to come here so we can talk," I say but receive no response. I get up from our bed and stand in front of him, using my hands to cup his face and tilt his head at me, "Baby, talk to me."

"Jessica, I can't right now. It's too much."

I feel my heart drop down into my stomach, and bite down on my bottom lip.

"What can I do? How can I help you?"

"Fuck, Jess. I don't know."

"Then lay down with me. We don't have to talk, we don't have to do anything. Let's just rest because it's been one hell of a day," I whisper looking down at him.

Niall nods in agreement so I lean down to lightly press my lips against his, lingering longer than I intended to. Niall wraps his arms around my waist, pulling me into his lap, mumbling an I love you so freaking much.

"No sex when you're in this state," I tease, attempting to make a joke. It does make him smile slightly and that's all that matters.

"No sex, but how about just a make out session like the old days?"

I chuckle, nodding before bringing my lips back to his. Our lips move together as his fingers dig into the light material of one of my shirts. Our kids is filled with passion, heat and necessity, as if this is something that we both really needed.

My hands run through his hair on the back of his head, making him groan, "You know that gets me, Jess."

I grin at him, "Too bad," I mumble against his lips.

"Are you sure no sex? Because I'm totally fine."

"I'm sure. I don't want to do something like that after today."

Niall nods in understanding before pressing his lips to mine once again.
