*sequel to More Than Best Friends*
It's been eighteen years since Jessica and Niall have heard from Demi Lovato. Their life had been perfect, they married each other, raised a couple of kids, and had a marriage anyone could practically dream of.
T...
"I'll be home in two weeks. You'll have me for three whole days, and I promise I'm going to spoil you," Niall says, his face cupping mine and his lips brushing against mine.
I nod, my eyes closed as he presses his lips against mine. I can't talk right now, I don't trust my voice right now. If I talk, I am going to break down for the second time in twenty four hours.
"I love you," I whisper wrapping my arms around his neck and hugging him tightly. "Please call me when you get back to America."
"I'll call you the second I land, and the second you are about to have dinner," he says.
"I don't want you to worry about me when you're so far away, Niall. I'll be okay, I promise," I say softly, keeping my arms around him but pulling my face away from his shoulder.
Niall sends me a look before pressing his lips against my forehead, and then he lets me go. When his arms leave me, I feel my eyes fill with tears. Why is it always so damn hard to watch him leave? Why is it so fucking hard?
The kids and Damien join me by my side, and I can't help but throw my arms around Emma and Sydney. The both of them are standing on either side of me, and Nathan is exactly in front of me.
Niall looks back at us one last time, as if he's taking it all in. I give him a sad smile before he steps into the black sedan, before it drives away seconds later.
Emma sighs, turning into me and wrapping her arms around my torso. It's when I feel her body shuddering and hear her sobs, that my tears fall down my cheeks too. I wrap my other arm around her, hugging her tightly, "It's okay, baby, it's okay," I whisper into her hair.
She continues to sob in my arms, and it is only a matter of seconds before Sydney wraps her arms around us and Nathan's arms wrap around my upper thigh. Here we are, all standing, hugging each other after watching Niall leave.
"It's okay," I whisper, removing one arm from Emma and wrapping it back around Sydney. Her body is shuddering too, and all of my heart is completely broken.
I never expected it would be like this. I never expected that Niall leaving would have ended like this.
"Alright, kiddos, lets go inside," I say softly, "No school today except for Damien."
Sydney can't help but chuckle at my sentence. I leave Sydney and Damien outside, grabbing Nathan and placing him on my hip. "Come on," I say softly, pulling Emma with me as we walk into the house.
"I'm going to call your schools and let them know," I say softly, keeping Nathan on my hip.
Emma nods, laying down on the couch with a pillow hugged to her chest. Walking towards the kitchen, I grab my phone and see that Niall left me a note.
Promise me that next time I see you, you have not lost any weight. I need you here with me, with the kids as much as you need me. I love you so much, Jessica Horan.
I can't help but smile at his note before dialing the numbers of the schools that the kids attend. I make sure to tell them they're not coming in and that they will be back tomorrow.
Sydney walks into the house just minutes later, her eyes are filled with tears too. Everyone seems to be taken Niall's abscess really hard this time, and it makes my heart clench.
"Why did dad come home for just a day, Mum? Was it because you two were arguing?" Sydney asks, her voice comes out soft. "I already miss him. I don't want him to leave when he comes back in two weeks."
"I miss him too, honey," I say softly as I place Nathan on the couch next to his sister. Nathan immediately cuddles with Emma, and I sit down between him and Sydney. "We had a slight disagreement, but everything is okay."
"So no divorce?" Emma asks, her voice is raspy from all the crying that she has done.
"I would never divorce your dad. We've known each other since we were babies, he can't get rid of me that easily," I tease.
Sydney chuckles, leaning into me.
For the remainder of the day, the kids and I watch movies and when they all fall asleep, I take out my phone to see that Niall hasn't texted me yet. I wonder if he's made it to America.

Getting up from the couch, I walk towards the stairs and up to my room. I press the call button on his contact and wait for the phone to ring.
"Hello?"
It's her. She has his phone?
"Josie, give my husbands phone to him," I say, trying to keep my cool.
A gasp of surprise echoes through my ear, "Jessica, it's been too long. How are you doing? Enjoying your time at home with all of your kids?"
"Josie, I fucking swear -"
"Listen to me, Jessica. What you did to me all those years ago ruined me and my career. Just wait until I get what was supposed to be mine eighteen years ago."
"Where is Niall?" I seethe.
"Niall can't come to the phone right now. I'll let him know that you called."
Then, she hangs up and I am left standing in my room.
