Chapter 20. Lost at Road
The soft wind brushes against my cheeks and I open my eyes, leaving my peaceful slumber, astonished when I find myself pressed close against Jasper's sleeping figure. Jasper's head rests on my shoulder and his left arm is draped over me loosely. His dark hair sways along with the silenced wind which throws his sweet, natural smell into my nostrils. The sun is shining brightly down upon us, but there is still much wind crashing about, making today quite beautiful.
When a vehicle rushes past our truck, it makes our car sway the smallest amount, which awakes Jasper. He slowly opens his eyes to reveal his bright, blue orbs. When he notices our sleeping position, he raises his head off my shoulder to meet my gaze. Staring at one another face-to-face, his left hand gently grasps a strand of my hair and twirls it around his finger, then places it behind my ear.
"Hey," he greets in a raspy, morning voice.
"Hi." I reply with a smile.
He doesn't move his arm away from me, even though he sees what his position is. My face heats up and I can't suppress my smile.
"So, we should get moving then, huh?" I ask softly as I begin to sit up.
"No, no, no.. just five more minutes." Jasper pleads as he keeps his strong hold on me.
My heart skyrockets and I sink back into the blankets.
"How are we going to move the truck?"
"Shh, shh. Let's just sleep.." he murmurs.
"But without any gas in the tank, we will have to try and get-"
Jasper's hand falls on top of my face, and I snort out a small laugh.
"Sleep." he smirks in amusement as his eyes stay closed.
Abruptly, a huge gust of wind thrashes against the truck and over our faces. My hair flies to the side, over my face. The truck shifts over from the forceful wind, making Jasper roll over into my side, his face nearly clashing with my own. The awkwardness is undeniable, and I start to laugh nervously.
"Sorry," he slightly chuckles and moves away, letting some safe distance grow between us.
"We should start moving the truck before the weather becomes unbearable." Jasper sighs, clearly not wanting to move.
We both stand from the bed of the truck and Jasper is first to hop out. He lends me his hand and helps me out of his truck like a gentleman. We both begin to push the truck out of the ditch we threw it into in the first place. It takes us ten minutes to finally levee the vehicle out of the deep sunken ditch, and back on the side of the road safely.
When we continue our task of pushing the heavy automobile, we are interrupted by a shiny, black Ford truck comes to a stop beside us. When the stranger rolls down the window to reveal themselves, I widen my eyes in shock when Nathan and Dawson are the ones driving.
"What do we have here?" Nathan smirks as he smacks his gum.
Nathan has a Hoop Fest T-shirt on with some Aviator sunglasses covering his eyes. Dawson is in the passenger seat with a striped tank top that reveals some moderately built up muscles and
bright yellow sunglasses.
