Chapter 2. Surviving Lunch
A short, pudgy, woman peers down at me with a furious scowl and I swallow nervously, also noticing her high-heels are a whopping six inches. She grabs my arm and yanks me out of the closet and I snatch my back-pack as she lifts me up to face her. She is at least three inches shorter than me, and she even has high-heels on, which is a little peculiar, but there isn't much time to think about her height, because she begins to angrily snap at me.
"Well?" she speaks up again, "I said, what do you think you were doing in there?" she asks sharply.
"I-"
Unfortunately, I am unable to finish my sentence because I hiccup again and the lady rolls her eyes and grabs me by the ear, pulling me with her down the hall as I wince at the pain shooting through my ear while she leads me straight to the principal's office. The woman in high-heels knocks furiously on the principal's office door and the entry opens immediately.
"Yes, Miss Pennski?" the principal raises an eyebrow.
"Principal Fulton, this young lady was found ditching class by hiding in the closet." she purses her lips.
"I see, and isn't this our newest student?" he inquires and I look to the ground.
"I suppose it is," Miss Pennski comments.
"Let me take it from here, thank you for bringing this to my attention." Principal Fulton nods to the woman and she straightens her stance and walks away with her heels clicking loudly with her.
"Please, step inside my office."
I sigh and brush past the tall man and sit in an empty chair in front of his desk. He sits in his desk spin chair, making a creasing noise when he sits down. He huffs out a breath and taps his fingers together in thought as he glances at me.
"Here is what I will do, Miss Davidson. I am going to have to inform your parents about this, but-"
"Please, Mr. Fulton, my parents will kill me when they find out. You don't understand the full story of why I ended up in that closet, and I have a good reason." I quickly cut him off.
"Miss Davidson, I know about your past experience with your other school and I really believe I should tell your parents-"
"Mr. Fulton, I was set up! Nobody believes me, not even my own parents. When they hear that I was ditching on the first day of my new school, they will think the worst and send me off to military school or something. You have to believe me, sir. I will do anything to keep this between us-"
"Aria," he stops me. "Seeing how it is your first day here and change can be a hard thing to cope with.. I will let you off with a warning and I will not be calling your parents about this. If this ends up happening again, however.." he trails off and I nod.
"I know, sir. I will make sure it doesn't, thank you for letting me off the hook." I say gratefully and he smiles with a small nod.
"Quite alright, now, get to your next class. Do you need a schedule?" he asks.
"No, I have my own, thank you." I say and stand up from the uncomfortable seat in front of his desk.
"Have a good first day, Miss Davidson." he says politely and I thank him and exit his office with a sigh of relief.
I clutch the strap of my bag tightly that hangs over my shoulder carelessly and take a gander at my schedule to see that I have to head over to the library for a group discussion or study or something along those lines with my English class. I furrow my eyebrows in confusion at the school map that has all my classrooms and halls and the building all mapped out. Apparently the library is located upstairs.
