Chapter 26. Revelation

[ Jasper's POV ]

A gasp launched out of my throat, the sound cloaking my voice to sound like I just arose from the dead. A beam of light shone into my retinas, my surroundings nothing but a blur. My mind felt meshed, my thoughts conflicted. I opened my mouth to speak, but words didn't come out. My vision didn't return as I was hoping, thus spiking my nerves. I could hear a heart rate monitor erratically beeping, indicating I was currently in a hospital. Hands were suddenly latched to my arms, another light beam shone into both of my eyes.

"Jasper, can you hear me?" an unfamiliar voice inquired.

I nodded weakly.

"Good, that's very good Jasper. How are you feeling?"

I nodded again to insinuate I was doing okay.

"Wh--" I began to quiz until my throat closed.

"Don't try to talk now, save your energy. My name is Dr. Alister, you're currently at the CWT hospital, you were beaten pretty severely, but lucky for you, you were brought to us just in time. If you're having trouble seeing, which I imagine you are, it's nothing to worry about. Both of your eyes are swollen from whatever hit you, they should go down soon. Now, when you are feeling stronger, the police will want to question you about what happened," the doctor cleared his throat, "but for now, you need to rest. I will check in with you in a bit."

Footsteps protruded out of the room until I was left alone.

Everything inside of me wanted to stay awake and find out where Aria was, but the drugs I was on took over, and I was put back to sleep for three more hours.

-

"...critical, meaning most of his time spent in physical therapy."

My eyes pried themselves open, feeling like I was tearing glued paper apart. My vision had returned, just as the doctor presumed. My grandmother and the doctor were standing just outside my room, my grandma in tears and the doctor giving her paperwork and a gentle pat on the shoulder. Standing below them were black pigtails bouncing around Grandma.

It was Ruthie.

I smiled as much as my injuries would allow me to.

"Ru... Ruthie..." I rasped.

The pigtails bounced forward, facing my bed and suddenly darted to my side.

"Jasper! Jasper, you're alive!" Ruthie beamed.

Grandma and the doctor entered the room after hearing Ruthie's squeals. Grandma stood by Ruthie and gave me a gentle kiss upon my head. Ruthie jumped up onto my bed and tried to cuddle up next to me, but apparently, I had a cast on my arm and an IV in the other that made it difficult for her to do so.

"Oh, dear I think it's best you stay off your big brother's bed for now while he heals," Grandma tamed my sister.

"I agree," Dr. Alister chimed.

Ruthie pouted and got off the bed but still had a hand clinging to my fingers.

"How are you feeling, Jasper? That eyesight back?" Dr. Alister quizzed.

"Yeah, and so is the voice," I mentioned.

"That's excellent news," he grinned, checking my vitals and shining a light into my eyes again.

"How am I?" I inquired.

"You're doing good. Truth is, you're going to need quite a bit of PT."

"Can you tell me everything going on with me," I requested.
