Chapter 4. That Hero Type

Having my feet hit the waxed flooring of my new school building will never be the new normal for me. The fact that my evil nemesis', Jasmine and Kade, got me expelled angers me to no end. Since the terrible day I came to this new school, I have been counting down the days until summer begins, and so far, there is only seven more weeks left.

I roam the halls until I reach my fourth period class, which is Spanish two.

Once I take an empty seat near the back of the room, I prop open a book of mine and place it on top of my desk and place my head phones in, making music blast into my ears. The good thing about this class is that Mrs. Newswater - my Spanish teacher - doesn't give a crap about what you do.

As I read my book 'The Fault in our Stars,' I can't help but feel as if someone is staring at me.

I drop my book and furrow my eyebrows in uncertainty. Glancing around the room, I come across a familiar set of the deepest blue eyes I have ever seen. Jasper drops his gaze from me and turns back around. His desk is in the row beside mine and it is three desks upwards, therefore he is in the second to the first row while I am in the second to the last row.

I didn't know he was in my Spanish class..

I reluctantly raise my book back up to my face and continue to read.

A few minutes pass and I drop my book and peer over the pages to take a look at Jasper, only to see the back of his head. His shoulders are slumped and his head is down, so his neck is more visible and because of that, I am able to notice a small marking on the back, appearing to be a tattoo or something.

He raises his head up and turns around to face me, yet this time, he isn't the only one looking at me. The entire class, including Mrs. Newswater, is staring straight at me. My cheeks burn and I pull out my headphones, stopping my music from playing so I can hear what's going on in the real world around me.

"Um, yes?" I awkwardly speak up.

"The class speaker that is connected to the office just beeped and Ms. Cathens called for you, saying you have an urgent visitor who has requested to see you, immediately." Mrs. Newswater explains and I blink.

I stay quiet and seated while the rest of the class stares at me. Mrs. Newswater raises an eyebrow and leans her head forward a small amount, as if to say "well?"

"Oh, uh, right." I speak up and stand from my desk seat, picking up my bag and book while placing my headphones and iPod in my backpocket.

I exit the classroom and the door squeaks to a close from behind me. I quickly sort out my books so that I am not fumbling with them as I walk down to the school office. My two Spanish books begin to slip out of my arms and my other school books begin to fall as well and I realize that I am a hall away from being to the front desk office, so if the front desk lady sees this chaos, I will never be the same cool new girl that she seems to think I am.

At least I think she thinks I am.

Someone's arms swoop in and snatch my books right up before the collapse to the floor with a thud. Once I steady myself again with my books, I gaze away from the ground and come face to face with the idiot himself, Kade freaking Martin in all his tall and 'mighty' glory.

I gasp, dropping my books and he laughs, bending down and picking those up as well.

"What are you doing here?" I angrily whisper in a rather loud tone.
