It was around eleven-thirty at night when I felt the sudden pressure on my bladder, alerting my mind that I needed a restroom or I would explode. I guess that was to be expected after having chugged two bottles of Sprite. I sat up straighter and groaned to Jasper as my sign of needing to stop. He glanced over at me with his mesmerizing blues and sent me a small grin, amusement glimmering in his eyes.
"Bathroom break?"
"Yes..."
"I told you that drinking two bottles wasn't--"
"Shut up and get us to the rest stop," I sheepishly chuckled.
"About that..." he trailed off.
"What?" I raised an eyebrow, perplexed.
"We passed a rest stop a few miles back, there won't be another one anytime soon."
"Jasper! I need to pee!"
He laughed and I slouched back into my seat.
He snorted, "Cross your legs," unable to keep the smile off his lips.
"Why is this so amusing to you, huh?"
"I guess you just bring that side out of me," he smirked and I rolled my eyes.
"Okay you need to pull over somewhere or I am going to piss all over your seats--"
"Wow, all right, all right!"
My lips churned into a triumphant smirk at his compliance. Jasper pulled the truck off to the side of the quiet road, puffs of smoke coughing up from the exhaust pipe in the back. He shifted the truck into park and I swiftly retreated from the vehicle, winding around front and hobbling into the bushes off the side of the road. I uncomfortably crouched down and took a piss, reaching for a reasonably clean leaf from what I could tell in the dark to finish up. Once I felt a bug crawling up my ankle I stood up briskly and pulled my pants back up, a short squeal blurting out of my throat. I cringed at the thought of a spider crawling up my leg as I ran back to the truck.
"What was that girly squeak for?" Jasper quizzed when I shut the door behind me.
"Something was crawling up my leg," I cringed and he snickered, starting the engine.
"Shouldn't have had those two Sprites..."
I sent him a pointed look, throwing my clenched fist into his arm for good measure, but he merely laughed it off. The time went on slowly, but quickly at the same time. My back felt stiff, my legs were weary, and my eyes felt droopy. Leaning back into the seat as far as I could, I propped my feet up onto the dashboard and rolled down the window, the air rushing through my hair and slipping through my fingers like silk.
"Aria?" Jasper broke the silence between us, turning down the radio.
"Yeah?" I murmured drowsily.
"Why did you get expelled?"
My eyes shot open, my body no longer feeling tired. I sat up a little straighter and cleared my throat, sneaking a glance over at Jasper. The quickened pace of my heart told me that telling him could ruin everything between us. What if he left me on the side of the road? I cringed at the thought. Jasper remained silent, awaiting an answer. Twiddling my fingers together nervously, I cracked the joints in them and took a large intake of air.
