Aether POV:

I could barely even close my eyes, let alone fall asleep last night. Those words that Xiao said to me, they echoed inside my head repeatedly, not wanting to leave at all.

I woke up to the sound of my alarm bursting in my ears. My measly 3 hours of sleep would probably not get me through the day but, I'd have to go to school regardless.

I stumbled out of my bed, dragging my body to the kitchen where I was met by the sound of my sister's annoyingly high pitched voice:

"Oh Aether! You look so terrible this morning. Not that you don't look terrible every other morning but~ you seem to not have slept well. Something on your mind?"

I waved her away with my hand as I slumped down onto my chair, reaching my hand out for one of the pieces of toast on the plate.

Lumine quickly slapped my hand away. "You should respond to someone when they ask you a question, Aether"

I sighed, could she be quiet for just a second?

"Nothing. Just didn't sleep well."

She raised her eyebrow, clearly not believing a single word I just said. She groaned in disappointment. "Really? Nothing at all?"

"No now let me eat my breakfast"

I took the piece of toast from the placed and shoved it into my mouth.

"You better go get ready soon. If you're not ready in 20 minutes I'm leaving to school without you!" Lumine ran out of the kitchen and to her room, leaving me and my thoughts in the kitchen.

My brain was probably operating at .5 speed.

This toast sure was good.

I shook my head and regained my thoughts. I cleared my throat and trudged back to my room. I pulled out a change of clothes, a casual white hoodie with brown jeans. I brushed out my long blonde locks, tying them into a long braid that went down to my hip. I've been growing my hair for quite a while. Maybe I should cut it sometime.

I entered the bathroom to the right of my room and brushed my teeth. My eyes glued to my reflection on the mirror. I looked like I haven't slept in days.

"AETHER, I'M LEAVING IN 2 MINUTES SO YOU BETTER GET YOUR ASS DOWN HERE BEFORE I LEAVE WITHOUT YOU"

My eye lids felt heavy and it was already hard to keep them open. I put my toothbrush away then made my way down the stairs, glancing over at my twin sister who had a slight glare locked onto me.

"We're going to have to run to school at the rate you're moving"

"Yeah yeah, let's go"

We both walked out our house, Lumine locking it as we did. We walked silently for a couple of minutes before she spoke up:

"So, what happened yesterday"

I turned my attention towards her, staring at her with a confused expression. She didn't bother returning my look and just stared up at the blue sky.

"What do you mean?"

"Don't play dumb Aether. You know exactly what I'm talking about"

I turned my head away, my eyes travelling around the scenery surrounding us.

"Nothing really. We just talked"

"About what exactly"

Was she seriously this nosy?

"Personal stuff"

"Such as feelings?"

I opened my mouth but nothing came out. She knew didn't she? Was she just tormenting me now? I sighed, giving in to her.

"Yeah"

She finally looked over at me, her identical yellow eyes staring at me with a look of anticipation.

"What did Xiao say?"

This was the question I didn't want to ask. I could feel the tips of my ears grow warm, my heart pounding slightly louder than it normally is.

"I uh... he said..."

Lumine smirked at my flustered state. "He said he liked you right?"

My head darted towards her and shot a glare. I couldn't help but sigh.

"Well~ looks like I was right. What did you say?"

I recalled what Xiao told me. That he didn't need an answer.

"I didn't tell him anything. He left before I could"

Lumine groaned loudly, clearly disappointed.

"Seriously? What would you have said?"

I looked down at my feet, my fingers fiddling nervously as I searched for an answer.

"I... I don't know really"

Lumine stopped in her tracks. Staring at me with a look of disbelief and slight disgust.

"You're kidding right? You'd seriously pass on a catch like Xiao? Damn your standards must be really high!"

"No! It's just I... I don't like him like that Lumine! Besides, I'm already interested in someone else"

She begun to walk again, this time going a little faster than me. "Your loss Aether"

I attempted to keep up with her fast pace. It was clear she was disappointed beyond belief, but why?

After about 7 minutes, we finally made it to the school. My legs felt about as good as done. I should've asked Lumine to carry me.

Lumine spotted Venti at the gate, immediately running to go tackle her best friend. Venti was originally my friend first, but then Lumine stole him from me.

I made my way through the crowd of students, and towards the entrance of the school. Just then, my eyes met with a pair of golden yellow ones that belonged to a very familiar dark haired boy. Xiao.
