Ashton says walking into the room. Him telling me that, is like swaying a spoonful of food in front of a child.
"I can't have my woman working when she can have everything she wants."
"Well, can I have my life back?"
I ask, baffled as to why he had to take away the only thing that could keep my mind off everything."Why are you doing this? Why do you want to hurt me so bad? I told you I want nothing from you!" I yell and he just stands there, his lips pulled in a smirk. I so badly want to slap it off his face. I thought I was starting to feel something for him but he just keeps touching the red line.
"You can yell all you want. The fact remains that you are not leaving this house. I never asked you to come through the doors of my house. But now that you are here, you'll respect every decision of mine because this is my house."
And just like that, he walked out, giving me space to process every word of his. At a point I forgot Yara is standing next to me.
"I'm sorry Shay."
"Don't be. It's not your fault. I shouldn't have listened to Danny that day."
She looks at me like I've lost my sense of thinking. Clearly not familiar with what I just said.
I actually lost my sense of thinking ever since I met Ashton. I can't think straight with him everywhere. Ever since I've known him, I haven't been able to live a life of my own. He's just everywhere. Campus, camp, at the apartment and now we are bonded together. Even when i tried to avoid him, he keeps showing up. What is happening?
"Do you wanna talk?"
She drags me back to reality. Am I ready to talk to her? Won't she perhaps judge me?I spend about five minutes telling her half of my love story, the rough encounter with her uncle and all the parts she didn't know.
I tell her how her cousin and I met. The boot camp and all that had happened while we were there. I tell her almost everything about how my bestfriend betrayed me.
"Your boyfriend faked his death? Why?"
From what I've been thinking, Jake and Danny had planned the whole conspiracy. I should have followed Danny to see Jake's body that day at the hospital.
"I can't really tell you why. It happened so fast."
I tell her about the contract, Ashton's confession, and lastly, Jake showing up after months of him pretending to have died.
"Your story is- unique. It sounds like one of those movies. Don't you think there's a reason why Ashton is doing all this?" Just as soon as she asked me that, it hit me.
"I think I know. He's still upset with me for not giving him a chance."
"I wish I could stay and listen. My shift starts in an hour and I have to go and get ready."
I wave her off politely and she lives me and my thoughts.
After half an hour, I suddenly feel my stomach digesting itself. I need to eat something before I die in this house.
I walk into the living room and I find Ashton and Maia making out on one of the couches. A wave of jealousy hit me so hard. I have never felt like this ever in my life. Not even with Jake. So this is how married women feel when their husbands cheat? I manage to push it away.
I clear my throat without a chance to process the idea and they came apart. Ashton's face is plastered with regret while Maia's is smeared with make-up.
"Can I make use of the living room now?"
I mentally highfive myself.
"Ashton, why is she here?"
Maia asks still seated on Ashton's lap. He stands and Maia falls to the side."First my boyfriend and now my husband. Why is God so unfair that he only gives me cheaters?" I plainly chuckle and grabbed the remote control which was centimetres away from Ashton.
I turn the huge flatscreen TV on and sat on one of the couches.
"Ashton, I asked you a question? I demand for an answer." Maia persists. I take in her look which is a skimpy outfit. Her skirt barely covered her behind. Too much cleavage - 6/10. She has on a pair of cute shoes I'll give her a 7 for. I would've asked where she had gotten them from but her and me, we don't click.
"I do not owe you any explanations Maia. There's nothing between you and I. We both know that." He says and Maia rushes out with a head on fire. Did she have to cut the fun short?
I know I feel anger towards him but he clearly told me that there is nothing between us. Just papers and signatures. It's funny how my appetite disappears and reappears and disappears again. I get up to leave and he spoke up,
"Did you eat?"
I turn around and locked eyes with him. I'm not gonna lie, Ashton is way good looking than the term good looking. There was a familiar look in his eyes. One that I've seen before all these.
I look away instantly.
"Trust me, you wouldn't wanna know."
I said and walked out.
I open one of the rooms and stepped inside. Who builds an office at home? I study the pictures in wooden frames. A young Frank in a graduation gown smiled in the picture while he held his degree close. My gaze averts to a three men under the moon painting which I won't lie, got me distracted."That painting is way costlier then every single thing you've ever had."
I turn and Frank stood in the doorway, observing my every move.
He walked inside. I expected him to send me out but no he did not."That was the youngest king to have ruled the Oukwanyama kingdom. He was a true leader."
I guess the gang leader's life doesn't only revolve around guns and drugs. What am I saying? Everyone is aware of the young leader. But there's something I've always wanted to know.
"What killed him?"
I ask not sure if I'm gonna get the exact answer I need."1911. Some say he killed himself. That he Did not want to be killed by the white men. Some say he was killed for his stubbornness."
Where is Frank heading to?
Is he giving me a hint.
I turn to leave and I hear him loading his gun."Shallo!"
My heart skipped a beat at his voice as I turned around.
"Take this, you'll need it."
