____________________________________________________________________________The camp Supervisor I'm guessing, stands up from her seat. I can't really make out what she is giving out. She finally gives Ashton and I similar white tiny boards written twelve on both sides. I zoom in the name tag on her left side of her shirt, 'Simsa', I read.
After everyone in the bus got their number, Simsa walks back to the front, demanding everybody's attention.
"Listen up everyone. I don't care how close or distant you are with the people you are currently sitting next to, but I'm making it fair for everyone. If you choose partners others will be left alone. That is why I made random arrangements by sharing a room with the person you're sitting next to. And don't think about switching numbers, not everyone is stupid." What in the name of bombshell was that. I raise my hand ready to object.
"Before you ask. No, I'm not gonna make changes. I said what I said." Her tiny voice fades and I drop my hand disappointedly.
How can I share a room with Ashton. He seems unbothered at the moment. I can't read his face, it's emotionlessly blank. His attention is on his phone and he's still sipping on that tasteless ice tea.
Why would he sit next to me in the first place? This is all his fault. I hear incoherent rabble rousing from all corners of the bus. Some in support and some against the idea.
I glance at the back. I lock eyes with my bestfriend wiggling her eyebrows at me. She seems excited. If she thinks I'm gonna leave the issue unaddressed, she's joking.
I raise my hand again, adjusting my black hoodie.
"Yes...Ms Pereira. " Oh she knows me! Even better. You have a tag with your name on it Shallo.
"I can never share a room with Ashton because-"
"Hey! what have I done?" Ashton childishly whines looking up from his phone as he interrupts me and I ignore him.
"What has Ashton done?" She asks folding her arms. Everyone on the bus has their eyes on me. I feel attacked so I keep quiet.
"This is not high school. Where dormitories are occupied only by a specific gender, sweetheart. By the way, Ashton isn't bothered." This woman can soothe a wound she caused, I'm telling you. She turns her broad back against Ashton and I. I look out the frosty window, squinting my eyes as I try to read on a sign that says 'Welcome to... Swakopmund'.
The bus suddenly comes to a stop in front of what looks like bungalows. The noise erupts from the back of the bus as people jumped off. The cold breeze enters making me shiver a little. I sit still waiting for Ashton to stand and give me space but he sat still tapping his finger on the seat in front of him. He looks deep in his thoughts.
"Excuse me. You are blocking my way and I wanna get off." He stops what he was doing and shifts back in his seat.
Ashton's POV
Should I really persuade it? I mean, we are gonna share a room, she'll have no choice but to listen to me. I don't know what I'm feeling. I like the fact that I'll be close to her. Why am I even feeling this way. I just wanna apologise and continue with my life.
