Hiccup's POV:

Seconds later they fired again, a large net heading towards us. I tried to steer Splinter out of the way, but Splinter wasn't quick enough. The net wrapped itself around us, and we began to fall. But it wasn't long before Splinters' wings cut right through the net, and the net remains fell into the sea.

"Come on, Splinter! UP!" I cried. Splinter began to fly up, flying further away from the ship. But I hadn't seen the second Hunter ship below, until it began firing Dragon Root arrows.

Splinter shrieked in pain, and I whipped my head around to see three arrows sticking out of his wings and back. "NO!" I yelled as I felt us falling. We fell fast, heading straight for the sea. We crashed into the ocean hard, the icy temperature knocking the wind out of me.

I swam up to the surface, gasping for air. I tried to pull Splinter up, tugging his tail fruitlessly. "Splinter get up! Come on, you have to get up!" Splinter didn't respond, and continued to sink. I didn't give in, still trying to bring up Splinter. But it was no use, and Splinter sank well below the surface. It was only then did I give up.

A ship pulled up nearby, and a dinghy holding 4 men was lowered into the sea. They rowed towards me, and pulled me out of the water. I didn't even try to fight back. I felt empty with shock. A dragon had died, right in front of me. And I couldn't do anything

about it.

3rd Person POV:

"Chief!"

Stoick turned around to find Snotlout running towards him. "What is it, Snotlout?"

"Astrid...wanted me...to tell you...that she will...meet you later." Snotlout panted, his hands on his knees. Man, I'm a little out of shape, he admitted to himself. Stoick furrowed his brow. "Why?"

"She didn't say. Heather will be taking a rain check, she's feeling ill. And Chief, I think I'll join you later as well. I need my beauty sleep." Snotlout regained his breath, and stood straight-backed. The Chief raised an eyebrow. "Do you want to find Hiccup, Snotlout?"

"Of course I do! I'll just start searching with you guys later." Snotlout answered, still trying his hardest to make Stoick believe the lie. Stoick groaned, looking irritated. "Three of our group members out. How is this a search party if there are almost no searchers?!"

"You could recruit the A team." Snotlout said, his voice going up a few octaves. Though Snotlout considered himself brave, he cowered at the Chief's fury. "Better not be long, Jorgensen." Stoick snapped, temper rising. "No sir, w-we shouldn't be long." Snotlout answered, rushing his words. Stoick turned and walked away, leaving Snotlout to sigh with relief. Good, he fell for it he thought. He then hurried away to meet with Heather and Astrid.

Yes, lying to the Chief could get them in serious trouble, but it was for a good reason. I hope we find something at the markets Snotlout prayed. Because if they didn't, they could end up in great danger.

Snotlout knocked on Astrid's door, and was let in by Heather. "Did you tell him?" Heather asked. Snotlout nodded. "I did. He fell for it. Where's Astrid?"

"She's waiting for us." Heather answered, grabbing her cloak. "Where exactly is she waiting for us?" Snotlout clarified while grabbing his cloak from the peg on the wall. "Raven's Point. Astrid thought the farther away we leave, the better chance we have of sneaking away unnoticed."

Wrapping their cloaks around themselves, they cracked their heads out the door. No one was in sight. Heather and Snotlout crept out of Astrid's house, and snuck out of the village. In truth, Astrid did choose Raven's Point to leave more unnoticed. Yet when she arrived there, she felt a wave of deja vu.

She gazed around the Cove, remembering the first time she met Toothless. She had tried to protect Hiccup, and was about to throw her axe at Toothless when Hiccup pushed it away. He calmed Toothless, and introduced the two of them.

Astrid smiled at the memory of her first ride on Toothless, her first ride on any dragon. Toothless had taken her for a crazy ride because he was angry that she hurt Hiccup, and he hadn't slowed down until she apologized. After that the ride went a lot smoother, a lot more beautiful. The only reason Berk rode dragons now, was because of Hiccup.

"We'll find him Astrid." Astrid jumped, not having heard Heather and Snotlout arrive. She wiped away a tear that had fallen down her cheek and turned to face them. "Did you do it, Snotlout?"

"Yeah. He wasn't pleased, but he fell for it." Snotlout informed. Astrid nodded. "Okay. You two ready?"

"Yep." Heather and Snotlout echoed in unison. "Alright." Astrid said before mounting Stormfly, who had been pacing around waiting to leave. Windshear and Hookfang had also been waiting nearby. "Let's go."

. . .

The trio had been flying for some time when Snotlout called out "Land ho!" Below them lay the Northern Markets. This island had no name, just known for hosting the shady and sketchy markets. They should be able to find a clue, a sign, maybe even Hiccup himself. "Well." Heather said after they landed. She pulled up the hood of her cloak, and the others did the same. "Let's start searching."
