"Amber..." A voice says. "Amber, can you hear me? If you can hear me, please say something."
My eyes flutter open and I'm lying on the couch, Mitch peering over me. My head is throbbing and my top has been put back on. He smells strongly of alcohol.
"Mitch..." I say, randomly. "Is Pel back?"
"No..." Mitch says. "Amber, I feel so bad right now. We need to get this place cleaned up before he gets home."
I nod, but that just makes my head hurt.
"Where's Reid?" I say, sitting up.
"I don't know...I just woke up a few minutes ago."
"Oh my God..." I say. "He said he was going to call Natalie-"
"Natalie? Why?"
Ignoring Mitch, I get up and run upstairs to Reid's door. My hair has now fallen from its bun onto my shoulders and my mascara is smudged.
Vigrously, I press the door handle.
It's locked.
I bang on the door loudly.
"Reid!" I shout. "Reid, baby don't lock the door. Please."
I pause and then press my ear to the door. I can hear faint, muffled crying.
"Reid!" I shout again, panic soaring through me. "Reid, are you okay?"
I think I hear footsteps come closer towards the door.
"No!" Reid shouts, crying.
"What's wrong, Reid?" I ask, frustrated. "Open the door."
No answer.
I'm starting to get really angry now.
"Reid, open the f**king door now!" I shout.
The door clicks open, and I storm in. Reid is sitting on his bed, crying his eyes out. He has a phone in his hands.
I grab a box of tissues from his bedside table and wipe his tears.
"Stop crying." I say, sternly. "You're not a baby, Reid. If you want something, just tell me. Don't hide your feelings. You're not Perri."
Reid's hurt brown eyes look up at me.
"I wanted to tell you..." He whines. "But you fell down. I thought you were dead, Mummy"
My heart skips a beat.
"Don't be stupid..." I say. "I didn't die."
"I was supposed to take my medicine..." Reid complains.
"What medicine?" I sigh.
Suddenly, Reid's phone rings. It's Natalie.
"Don't pick that up!" I shout, grabbing the phone from him.
"Who even bought it for you?" I demand.
"Natalie..." Reid says, quietly.
"And you have her on speed dial? No wonder she's always coming to get you. You tell her all the crap that goes on here!"
"I don't!" Reid shouts. "Mummy, stop shouting at me!"
Mitch pops his head round the door.
"Ambs, I'm leaving now. I've cleaned up and everything..."
"Okay, bye Mitch." I say.
He just nods and leaves.
When I hear the front door close behind him I pick Reid up and carry him to the living room.
