Chapter 2 Part 11

It feels like the walls are closing in on me.

It feels like I have no air...knowing that he has no air.

Reid's face looks so peaceful, yet that regular rise and fall of his chest is not there.

After my scream, tears start to fall down my face fast.

Pel scoops Reid up in his arms.

"What happened?" Pel demands to me.

I stand up now, running my hands through Reid's hair.

"I don't know!" I retort, panicking and not breathing properly. "I just left him here and-"

"Well you shouldn't have! You'd rather take me outside and have a go at me! You'd rather him..."

Pel's voice breaks and he starts crying. He looks at me again, this time fear in his eyes.

"I'm sorry Ambs..." He says. "Let's just...let's just get him to a hospital...quick!"

In a split second Ash and Fran are in the doorway.

"What the hell...who was screaming?" Ash says, walking up to us.

Fran's eyes dart towards Reid and I think they get what just happened. She puts her hands to her mouth and gasps.

"Right, hospital now!" She exclaims, taking Reid from Pel. "What the f**k happened?"

She doesn't even let Pel answer and bundles Reid out of the room, unconscious. Ash follows.

"Come on..." He says to Pel and I.

"This was my fault..." I cry, quickly grabbing my bag.

"You're right, it was." Pel snaps, getting all angry again.

Ash slams his fist on a nearby desk which makes us both jump.

"STOP this bulls**t right now!" He shouts. "Your son is unconscious and you're both acting like idiots! Come with me now! I don't care, I'll give you both a good beat up if I hear one more word! I MEAN IT!"

We both silently follow Ash out of our room. Before I can blink Ash, Fran Pel and I are in a taxi on the way to the hospital. Ash sits with Fran in the front who is still holding Reid. Pel and I sit in the back, and I have my head in my hands.

"I think he had some sort of attack..." Fran mutters, touching Reid. "He'll be fine, he needs oxygen. What happened?"

"I wish I knew..." Pel says. "I don't know...we were both outside talking-"

"Shouting..." Ash snaps, making a quick turn on the wheel.

"We came back in and he was just lying there...I don't know Fran..."

Suddenly I gasp.

"What?" Pel says, looking at me, actually concerned.

"I know why..." I say, starting to cry again. "This is all my fault..."

"Why then?" Pel says.

But at that moment we arrive at the hospital and Reid is rushed into the emergency room. Ash and Fran go with Reid because Pel and I are in no state to do anything. We're sitting alone in the waiting room.

"Amber stop crying..." Pel says gently. "It's no use..."

"I know why..." I say again.

I stop crying and Pel hands me a tissue.

"Thanks..." I say.

"You ready to tell me now?" Pel asks.

"That time when I was pregnant...remember, I ran into that burning building to save Mitch. Then when Reid was born early...the doctor mentioned he might have asthma or something. It's all my fault..."
