I wake up lying down on the bed feeling life someone just used me as a weapon. Perri is sitting by my side. My vision blurs before I finally focus on his face.
"I put Reid to bed..." He says. "You passed out."
My head is throbbing.
"You must have been really, really drunk." He says again, sighing.
"I wasn't." I lie. "I mean....I didn't drink that much."
"So you take pleasure in casually falling to the ground." Perri says, rolling his eyes.
"No-" I say.
I'm not really defending myself well enough. I just sigh and stand to my feet. I slip into some comfortable silk blue pyjamas. They were Mum's.
Perri sits on the bed, refusing to look at me. He stares at his phone.
"I know you're mad at me.." I say. "I should have gone to Karen's. I mean, is she okay?-"
"Dad's with her. My Dad." Perri mutters.
"See, that's great." I smile, placing myself next to it.
He sighs.
"I know..." He says. "I should just get over it. I will, I promise."
"I don't mean it like that." I say. "Take your time."
"Okay, then."
He stares at his phone for like another forty five minutes. So do I. It's stupid. It's stupid, akward and pointless.
"Can we go to sleep now?" He yawns, tiredly.
"Of course..." I say.
"Actually, I want to ask you a question..." He says. "The pills in your coat pocket-"
I turn my lamp off so we are in pitch blackness.
"Will you believe me?" I ask him. "I don't do drugs."
"Then what were they?"
"I feel like all you do is interrogate me."
"I feel like all you do is avoid my questions..." Perri says.
I turn over, upset.
"No?" He says.
I ignore him.
"Why can't you just tell me."
"I don't do drugs!" I nearly shout.
"You got them at the party?"
"Yes!" I shout. "They're pills. They're sleeping pills, okay?"
"Why?"
"Because I haven't been sleeping?" I say, stating the obvious.
"Well- I'm sorry..." Pel says. "But you can't just take pills from strangers-"
"Riley gave them to me!"
"Okay...still." He continues. "Who the hell is Riley? And...."
I can hardly make him out but I know exactly what he would be doing. Using hand gestures to intimidate me, rolling his eyes ever so often and his springy hair waving from side to side.
"They came with no prescription, dose amount and it could have potentially killed you." He complains.
"Okay, okay. I'm an idiot. Happy? All you do is lecture me. I'm not a little child-"
"You act like one."
"Just, shut up, okay? It's not your responsibility to tell me what to do. You're not my Dad or my Mum. And she certainly didn't die to give her job to you..." I say.
