Walking down the familiar hallway of college but accentuated by stares from the students was indeed inevitable. The one thing that always gave me creeps had caught up to me. I succeeded in being the center of attention and whispers behind my back, or it was just my anxiety playing mind games with me. Maybe, I was going through the spotlight effect.
I took a deep breath and headed towards the mathematics class, knowing very well that Leah would be there. She hadn't returned to the dorm since last night. I wanted nothing more than to make sure she was doing okay. Chris didn't deserve even one second of her attention, and I would do anything to keep it that way.
A few girls darted their eyes towards me as I made my way through the corridor. The looks on their faces didn't seem friendly. A sudden wave of uneasiness washed through me, and I curled my hand over my stomach. But not even a moment later, I released a sigh of relief as warm fingers wrapped around my sweaty palm. The feel of his touch and the possessiveness of his hold made me look up to my side.
"I've got you, love," Jake whispered in my ears, eyeing the hungry audience.
My lips twitched upwards in the most heart-felt smile I've ever flashed. When I first met Jake, I was sure he wasn't the one for me. But he crawled inside my heart and bones, fulfilling every crevasse and every single space. I entwined my fingers tighter with him as he brushed a strand of my brown hair while walking alongside me.
"Jacob," I mumbled, still admiring his by far the most beautiful version.
"Don't worry about the quiz, Amy. You will do fine." He assured, giving my hand a gentle tug.
It wasn't the quiz that made my heart thump loudly against my chest. It was the way I had started feeling so deeply about his every word and action. If it were the imagination of my mind, then I would have still moved on with that feeling. But it felt real, and it was real. Jacob was real. Somewhere between making Jake my writing inspiration and getting attracted towards him. I found my Jacob, and nothing could ever take that away from me. I would never let that happen.
"Yes, we'll do fine." I smiled at him, holding on to him even tighter as we proceeded for the lecture hall.
I saw Seb walking in our direction, and the first thing that caught his attention was our hands clasped together. Any other day I would have felt a little embarrassed or jerked away from his hold, but that phase was gone. If anything, I wanted him to accept the truth that I was with Jake and so planned to be for as long as it would last.
Luckily, he didn't look as furious as he appeared the first time he found me in his room. Instead, he sent one of his signature gentle smiles my way. I felt Jake's stature stiffened a little the moment Seb approached us.
"Amy," Seb said, shifting his attention from me to Jake. "Jacob, I wanted to talk to you. But it seems you're pretty occupied."
I noticed how Jake gripped my hand as if his life depended on it. He gave me a glance making my smile drop. He rolled his eyes and scoffed. What was his issue with Seb? I chose him, didn't I? If at all, he should be relieved I didn't fall for Seb's pleasant nature.
"I still have your suit jacket with me," I reminded Seb ignoring the fuming kid beside me.
"Yep, I almost forgot about my precious jacket," Seb said playfully. "I will take it from you after the class today?"
Jake's expression looked troubled. He looked greatly disturbed with the idea. I could feel his displeasure through our touch. I thought he would show his disapproval, but he just looked at me for five seconds straight. It suddenly dawned upon me.
"Sorry, I almost forgot. We're going out today. I will hand it to you tomorrow if that's not a problem." I said apologetically. It somehow softened Jake's demeanor, and he brushed his thumb on my skin.
