His black orbs locked me for a second in a state of absolute stupor. Jake had recovered from whatever trance he was in and was looking at me expectantly. The coldness surrounding his body made me realize where I was or how vulnerable I looked at that moment.
'What are you doing on my lap?'
Jake's question rang in my head, making me blush profusely. The dried tears at the corners of his misty eyes and the dissipating panic on his face tugged my heart a little. I somehow swallowed the concern originating within me and gave him a warning look.
"What am I doing on your lap? It was you who pulled me forcefully. I have zero interest in being this close to you." I scoffed, backing away from his chest. His hands were no more caging me in, but I was still sitting comfortably on his legs.
The look of dismay and loss in his eyes confirmed my speculations. A moment before, he was reminiscing someone else in his embrace. The possessiveness his arms showed was for someone he mistook me.
Jake recollected his composure as if he turned off an invisible switch. I could see his ink-black eyes regaining their casual glint. The smirk danced on his lips in the blink of my eyes.
"Really? So you are saying that you didn't want to be on my lap. That even in your wildest dreams, you don't fantasize about this. Well, then allow me to prove you wrong." He pursed his lips and sneered.
I looked at him in utter disbelief. It felt like he turned into an entirely new person. He couldn't just blame me for the hug, could he?
"There's nothing to prove. It was you who pulled me in your embrace. Who do you think I am?" I spat, crossing my arms.
"Is that so? What if I prove to you that it is what you wanted?" he gave me a wolfish grin. There was a challenge in his eyes. I couldn't let him twist around the situation we were in, all thanks to him.
"Try me," I smirked. I don't know how I displayed such bravery when I was supposed to step back.
"Are you challenging me, Amy?" His voice toned down to a low one, and his eyes darkened. "Or perhaps you are afraid to admit the truth." He stepped a few inches closer to me. And before I could stabilize my thoughts, the faint smell of his cologne heightened my senses. The hot breaths he exhaled hit my face, warming up my cheeks. The familiar warmth of his body engulfed me once again. His rough hands ran up my bare thighs at a menacingly slow pace.
"I-I'm not." I stuttered, locking my eyes with him. I could see the fire in them. I could hear my heartbeats in my ears, and his heartbeats picked up the pace too. We were way too close to each other, making my throat and lips dry. Subconsciously, my tongue slipped out to wet my lips, and his intense black eyes followed that action of mine.
"Admit it, Amy," he coaxed, giving a gentle squeeze to my thighs and teasingly letting his hands trace down a path up my waist. His head dipped down to the back of my ear and inhaled deeply. My hands fisted to the sides to resist touching him.
"Too stubborn," he husked on my neck, making me gasp with the feathery touch of his lips on my skin. He tightened his grip on my waist, pulling me flush against his body. That was the last straw of patience as my hands banded around his wrist to encourage or stop. I didn't know. I could feel the tension in his body as my fingers brushed against his hands.
His breathing became irregular, and I could feel his lips almost making contact with my burning skin. But my hands betrayed me as they ran circles on the abrasions of his wrists. Even though his touch was setting my skin on fire, the marks on his skin were burning my heart. And I couldn't stop myself as the words came out of my lips in a breath, "Jake, why did you do this to yourself?"
