Feelings are so fragile sometimes that you can't even risk feeling them so often. And sometimes they are so strong that it breaks you apart every time you do.
I didn't know how many minutes or seconds passed as I kept looking at the exit door. The storm within me was making it very difficult for me to do what I wanted to do. And next thing I knew, my legs moved on their own in Jake's direction. I cursed myself a thousand times, coaxed myself a million times in believing I should stay as far as possible from him. But in the end, my mind and body both were back in his track.
"Amy! stay," Seb said, holding my wrist gently, making me stop. I looked back at his grip on my wrist and then at his face. "I'll drop you," he added with a smile.
"No, Jake brought me here, and he owes me the ride back," I retorted, still in a daze. I could feel the way he was holding onto my hand, almost like a delicate flower. Why was he so gentle in all his actions?
"I will let you go this time, but please remember what I told you," he said with a sigh. "Don't get too close to him."
"I don't want to either. It's just this once." I assured him. Although, I didn't give much thought to my words. What could go wrong if I get closer to him, right? Wrong. Everything that I'd built out of my restraint would go downhill. And that's what I didn't want.
"Are you sure?" his grip tightened just a little, and I nodded hurriedly. What if Jake already left? Wouldn't that leave me with no option but to walk back to Seb? He let go of my hand and gestured me towards the door.
The moment he let me go, I rushed outside, crossing my heart that Jake was still there. But by the time I reached the parking lot, he had already hit the gas. A sudden wave of anxiety crawled underneath my skin as I saw his car speeding away from me. The next thing I knew, my legs dragged me in his direction. And I threw myself in front of his car, blocking his way. His eyes widened as he hit the brakes, coming to a sudden stop. Thank god! he didn't run over me.
"Are you crazy?" He yelled from the inside, turning off the engine. I could sense the fire in his voice. Was I crazy? Of course, otherwise, why would I pull out such a stunt.
I looked in his direction, a little disoriented from whatever I did a moment ago. A visibly tensed Jake rushed towards me, and I could only look at him helplessly. I was still catching my breath when he held my shoulders and dragged me away. Jake pressed me against the car. His hold was painfully strong as he pulled me to his eye level.
"What do you think you're doing? Do you have a death wish?" he gritted his teeth, and the veins on his forehead bulged slightly. His hold on my shoulder slowly tightened. I was like a deer caught in the headlights.
My face turned pale. Behind me was the hard surface of the car, and in front was Jake's burning eyes. I wanted to push him away, but all my strength had melted away. I wanted to shout at him, but my voice was stuck in my throat as his familiar scent hit my nose.
"I- You left with-without me," I stuttered, panting to breathe in as much air as possible. The heat radiating from Jake's body was impossibly suffocating me.
"Why? Don't you already have a ride back?" He sneered as his lips curled up coldly.
My body trembled under the impact of his strong aura. Suppressing the distress in my mind, I glared at him, "Didn't you force me to come here? You are supposed to take me back too, not someone else."
"Is it so?" he lowered his voice, but his cold gaze was still locking me in. Why was he suddenly so agitated?
"Yes, and please let go of me," I struggled to free myself from his bone-crushing hold. Those muscles weren't just for show though he didn't have to try on someone like me.
