"Can she speak?"

Luke sighed, leaning back in his chair, which was placed across from the cop. He looked over to Iris, who was being questioned at the table next to his, but, on the other side of the room.

"Um.."He drifted off, staring back at the cop. "Kinda, not really"

"Is it a physical illness that won't allow her to speak?" The cop asked, taking a sip out of his water.

"no, I don't think so, I heard one of, I guess, her old friends in school one time, reminiscing about how she used to always get in trouble in grade school for talking too much" Luke said, letting out a quiet chuckle.

He could only picture what she was like then. Or how a little Iris would be really upset and embarrassed for getting called out.

"well, these pictures are good but we need a confession out of her. If it's not an illness keeping her from talking....i don't know how that's gonna run in court" The cop shook his head, looking down at the pictures of Iris getting hit.

"We still need to find the father too" The cop mumbled to himself, putting the pictures in a pile and getting up from the chair.

"Thank you, Luke, we'll try to help out your girlfriend, just keep an eye on her." The man shook Luke's hand and walked off.

"she's not my-" Luke sighed, looking back at the cop that was already behind his desk. "whatever"

Running his fingers through his hair, Luke looked over at Iris who was nodding along to what the cop said. Then, they both got up shook hands and Iris made her way over to Luke.

"are you okay?" He asked, pulling Iris into his chest, wrapping his arms around her waist.

He felt her nod against his chest as she pulled away, smiling up at Luke.

"you're gonna be fine, Iris, I'll make sure of it" Luke said, holding her head in his hands and running both of his thumbs underneath her eyes. "You'll be fine"

Luke let his stare on Iris linger a little longer than he should've.

Luke held his thumb to her skin a little longer than he should've.

Luke let his emotions take over his mind a little longer than he should've.

Because, Luke wanted to.

Luke wanted to press his lips against hers to regain that, almost fictional, feeling he's had only once before.

Because, Luke wanted her.

He needed her.

But, before Luke let his feelings take over his soul once and for all, he pulled away, breaking his stare, and gave her a slight nod of the head.

"Food? I heard there was this fantastic restaurant down the street, it's called McDonalds, have you heard of it before?" Luke smirked, smoothly holding Iris's hand in his own.

Iris let out a small giggle, swinging Luke's arm with hers as they left the police station, walking to the McDonalds across the street.

Luke held open the door for Iris and quickly attached his hand back to hers as they both reached the counter.

"Hi, Welcome to McDonalds, can I take your order?" A bored blonde asked, not even bothering to look up at the two, instead, she seemed a lot more interested in her cuticles.

"Can I just get 2 plains burgers, a coke and sprite" Luke asked politely, taking out his wallet.

He looked over at Iris who was staring at him, one eyebrow raised and her mouth opened slightly.
