Luke is wealthy asf,k?

Iris had to fake her emotion when she was mute.

Iris has to fake her emotion even now that she's speaking.

Iris feels as if she cannot feel at all.

It feels fake; her entire life.

It felt like she was some sort of character in a movie.

Acting one way, pretending to be another.

She just wished that she could walk off set and everything would feel normal.

She wanted to be normal.

But in her case, normal was like the Wizard of Oz.

A fake in disguise of a dream.

This was her normal.

This was her life.

"Iris, can I ask you something?" Luke said, taking a seat across from her on the grass.

She looked at him, nodding her head as she leaned against the stump of the tree.

"Have," he said, starting to pull at the grass beneath him, "have you decided anything about, like, college?"

He watched as her expression immediately changed, she looked down at the grass copying Luke's habit of pulling at the grass.

"No, I haven't done anything."

"It's okay, we can look at stuff today, I'm sure you'll get in somewhere we just kind of have to hurry, maybe you can get into UC, we could be there together," Luke smiled, picturing the idea of him and Iris going to college together.

"You got into UC?" Iris asked, disappointed that she didn't know that.

Of course Luke has only been focusing on her lately.

She only blamed herself.

"Yeah," he said, his grin widening.

"I don't know," she said, ripping out more piece of grass and creating a pile.

"We're graduating in less than a month, Iris."

"We are?"

"Yeah," he chuckled, placing his hands on top of hers and giving them a gentle squeeze.

"Even if I got in, which I doubt I would until next year, I could never afford it, Luke," Iris said.

But what Luke noticed was that she didn't seem that sad about it.

"Iris, if money is a problem my family could always help, you could get student loans, it's really not a problem," Luke said, pulling his hands away from her.

"I could never accept that," She said, chewing on her bottom lip as she shook her head.

"Why not?"

"Because then I'd feel in debt to you, Luke, that'd I'd always owe you something I couldn't do that."

"You don't have to, Iris, just-just think of it as a birthday present for the next 50 years," he joked. "or once you graduate, get a job and pay me back."

"Luke, this isn't a video game you're offering its college."

"I know that, Iris, but you're worth it."

"No. I-I don't even know what I want to do with myself. I can't let you waste your money on me like that."

Luke shook his head and began speaking the words that came to his head, without thinking he said, "I won't be wasting it. I'll be spending it on someone I love."

"Luke, you don't-"

"Yes, I do, Iris, I love you, more than I've loved anything else in my entire life," Luke breathed out, looking back down at the grass.

"no, you don't."

"Yes I do," he insisted.

He wouldn't change his mind. Luke knew how he felt.

Right now he felt like Iris was his sun and moon, along with everything in between.

"Maybe now, yes, but not forever, Luke, we weren't meant to be, you're gonna go to college, study music, find a girl, and you'll actually be in love. What we are? we aren't love," Iris stated.

"Iris..." Luke gulped, wondering if this is what heartbreak felt like.

"No, Luke, and you'll see, one day, that i'm right and deep down you know that I am. I have no future and I'm just gonna effect yours," Iris said, standing up from the ground and wiping off her jeans.

"That's fine, Iris, I'll do whatever it takes to be with you, I'll defer a year and help you, I'll do whatever you want, I just can't lose you, not yet not ever," Luke said, getting up from the ground as he followed her to the door.

"No, Luke, no, you don't understand, I don't see myself having any future, I haven't applied to any colleges and I don't see myself becoming a mother or getting married, I can't see myself having a career or traveling, I don't see anything. I have no family, and I may have you right now but I know that this isn't going to last forever, I doubt it will even last another month, Luke, you liked me because I was your mystery and now the mystery's over, Luke, there's no more use for me," She shook her head, trying to get passed Luke as he blocked the door.

"Iris, stop it."

"No."

"Iris."

"You need to hear the truth, Luke, because you know it's true."

"You know what? fine. Continue going on through your life and telling yourself all this bullshit and when you realize you're wrong I'll still be here waiting because I love you and I'll always love you-"

"Luke, can you please move away from the door?"

"Iris," Luke said, leaning in closer so his lips were next to her ear. "The only person that's causing all this unhappiness and loneliness is yourself," he whispered, staying in that position for a second longer, then stepping to the side as Iris walked back inside.

And all Iris could wonder is when the scene would end.

When she could go to her normal.

sorry for any grammar/typos some parts of the chapter I've had typed up for ages and I really didn't feel like going through and editing it.
