Luz slammed her alarm that sat on her nightstand, off, leaving the girl awake in bed, in silence. She groans as she throws her covers off, dragging herself out of bed. Luz stands and stretches, not ready for the day to begin.

Four years since she found herself crying on the porch of a decrepit cabin just behind her house. Four years since she had a genuine laugh or smile. Four years since she felt like she was truly home. Today is Luz's first day of her senior year of high school. Let's just say, she wasn't really excited about it... At all...

The human sluggishly walked to her dull closet and swung it open, getting her outfit ready for her to change in. Luz get's changed and looks at herself in the mirror and sighs "Another year to mind my own fucking business." Luz rolls her eyes and kicks her door open, leading herself to the kitchen where she finds a note from her mother.

Had to pick up an extra shift. Make sure to smile on your first day as a senior!! ¡Te Quiero mucho! ¡Diviértete hoy!
-Mamá <3

"Shocker," Luz mumbles sarcastically as she crumbles the note up and throws it into the garbage. She then snatches a bagel from the counter and stuffs it into her mouth. Luz then grabs her bookbag and throws it over her shoulder and heads for the door.

Luz starts her walk to school while putting her earplugs in, listening to her music to block out everything. Listening to music brings the Latina girl peace, making the world around her nearly disappear.

As Luz walks, she looks down at her feet, mentally preparing herself for this year. "Ok Luz, just keep your head down and keep to yourself. That way Mia and everyone else will just leave me alone." Luz says quietly to herself as she nears her high school campus. She catches sight of Mia and groans to herself. "One more year. Just- One. more. year." Luz takes a deep breath and turns up her music. She then makes a move towards her school, keeping her head down, trying to be invisible. She fixes up her maroon beanie to try and cover her face, so the mean blond girl with the pink strand in her hair wouldn't take notice.

Unfortunately, Mia glanced up away from her worshipers and saw Luz. She motioned all of her friends to look at her walking with her head hung low. She laughed and yelled out "Hey Luuzer! Nice beanie. I saw a similar one in the garbage the other day! Is that where you got it from!" All of Mia's friends burst out into laughter while Luz rolls her eyes.

Luz took an earplug out and decided to be bold in the moment "Na. I bought it with my own money. A strange concept for you since your daddy literally pays you to function properly." Luz doesn't even look at the girl and continues to walk to her destination, making the spoiled girl's blood boil with anger.

Mia's smile instantly falls away and is replaced with disgust. She gets up from the hood of her new car that is parked and walked over to Luz with her followers "What did you say to me Luuzer?"

Luz smiled and took the other earplug out, standing tall with a smug look, and keeps walking on the same path, not stopping "What? Do I also have to pay you to listen?" Her eyes still not landing on the bully.

Mia grips her ice coffee with a death grip and raises her finger to Luz, poking her on the shoulder repeatedly while she continues her strut "I don't know who you think you're talking to, but if I were you I would shut your little mouth!"

Luz suddenly feeling bold, stands her ground and stops in her tracks. Then the human smirks and side-eyes the blond "Or what Mia? Post some gossip about me on social media? Guess what, I don't give a fuck what you think or say about me! Just leave me alone and worry about your hair or something." Luz smiles sarcastically and pushes Mia out of her way, walking into school. Leaving a fuming blonde behind.
