Luz runs through the orange woods of the Boiling Isles frantically. "No no no no no no no no no! This can't be happening right now!" Luz doesn't really remember how to get around, so as of right now, the human is lost in a vaguely familiar realm. Luz stops running for a moment to catch her breath. As the lost human pants, she tries to take in her surroundings. Nothing seems familiar at the moment, but hopefully, something will stand out soon.
Luz hears two voices coming in her direction, so the human hides in a near bush. She can't see who the voices belong to but recognize them.
"Do you think the portal is still stable?"
"I sure hope so. For the Owl Lady's sake and Amity's."
"Yeah. I think they took Gus out of school today, along with Amity. Hopefully, they're back by now."
"I just worry what they're going to find in the human realm."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, it's been four years. Luz was sent back alone. Who knows if she will be the same or if she's completely different."
Luz has an idea who the two are and tries to get a view from the bushes. She only gets a glimpse of a green and yellow Hexside uniform, confirming her suspicions.
"It's Luz. How different could she be?"
"I know, but you weren't close like we were B. She told me that she didn't have any friends back in the human realm. I'm not sure she had anyone when she was forced to return."
Luz had so many emotions running through her veins. She wanted to hop out of the bush she was hind in and just give her old friend a hug. But if she did that, then she would get attached again, and it would be harder to leave. So Luz stayed hidden from Boscha and Willow until they disappeared into the distant woods.
Luz got up from her hiding place and started to walk in the direction from which the two witches came. "Hexside," Luz says as she remembers that Hexside is straight down the path she was journeying on. So the human made her way to her old magic school to process what's really happening right now. Her hope was that Eda would go looking for her, and while she's wandering the Isles, Luz would sneak back into the Owl House and through the portal. A full-proof plan.
With each step Luz took, a new memory resurfaced, making the human aggravated. Luz began to mumble to herself "Quit it, Luz. The more you get comfortable, the harder and more painful it will be. Avoid everyone, and don't rekindle any relationship!" The plan truly hurt her, but sooner or later, Luz would have to return to the human realm just like before.
The sun was setting and Luz finally made her way to the front steps of Hexside. A smile crept upon her face as she looked at the glorious building she had so much fun at. She laughed to herself from that one time the Blight parents got her, Willow, and Gus expelled. The look on Amity's face when she struck that ridiculous deal was priceless.
Luz shakes her head, trying to ground herself in her 'well thought out plan'. She stepped through the doors and instantly felt relieved. It was like the weight of the world was lifted off her shoulders and now she could finally fly. A rare sight, Luz was smiling while walking the halls of her once attended school of magic.
She walked up to her old locker and ran her hand down it, remembering all the fun conversations she and Willow would have in this very spot. Luz felt the feeling of regret, wanting to go back and hug Willow hello after all these years. After all, she wasn't the one who dragged her through the portal.
Luz twirled through the halls, smiling at every classroom door, thinking back on the times she blew something up, or accidentally released a bunch of evil spirits. The human was genuinely happy at the moment. How much she missed the Boiling Isles. How much she hates the human realm and how she doesn't truly belong there.
